Making the right choice is always a problem isn't it. So many of us, myself included are the owners of slightly clouded crystal balls.
Right now I have my sights set on the 1D MkII N. I primairly shoot wildlife. I am fairly confident that Canon has a successor lurking around the corner. As is, the 1D MkII N would be a huge improvement for me over my 20D.
That being said, if the next gen 1D MkII N comes with 10 to 12 or more megapixels and is anywhere under $4000.00 and I pull the trigger now on a 1D Mk II N I will be kicking myself.
So, I think I will wait at least until March to see what happens.
In the mean time I am still waiting for the Pixma Pro 9500 printer to come out. I waited all of 2006 for it and it never came out. Now Canon is saying 2007.
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Paul,
honestly, buying now is always better than waiting for the next best thing. i think me and you have a very similar shooting style and when i bought the 1DmkII to replace the 20D, i was blown away. i think that the mkIIn will be just great even if canon comes out with a new mkIII or whatever. if you want, we can setup a day and go shooting some wildlife and you can use my 1D for the entire day and see if you like it.

buy used now, you won't take a big loss if at all, then decide. A non N version in mint condition with under 50k clicks are oign for $2300.
theres no guarantee that there will be a replacement in that price level and feature set, chuck westfall has said different things, but one was that the 1.3x bodies were done for. But that was some time ago and things may have changed.

hmmm, interesting. well, unless they will use the 1.6x sensor which i doubt, i guess that this will be my last 1 series body. i really don't want full frame... i wish they would do something like the Nikon D1xs and than i will be a very happy camper :)

theres no real info either way at this point. Chuck has gone back and forth on the issue, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you Snir that is a very generous offer. I will have the next 4 weekends off in a row. I work a crazy schedule. I would very much like to try the 1D MkII.
