Ok, I need one more lens so I can do some family portraits and landscapes etc. I am probably a year away from owning the 28-70 L and I realize that is what I really want but again that is probably 6 months to a year away.

I currently have the 70-200 f/4 L, and am ordering the 50 f/1.4 so need something in the 28-70 range, or at least a prime that can do small groups and sceinics.

Options: (that I could find, open to any sugestions)

Canon 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 USM $309.00
Canon 24 f/2.8 $279.00
Canon 28 f/1.8 USM $399.00
Canon 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM $399.00

The 24-85 makes for a nice all around lens and there's one in the used department of B&H right now. $249US

And it matches the filter size of your 70-200 f/4.

I've got the 24-85 - it was my first lens for the 10D and I still use it a lot. I don't find any downside to this lens except its speed, and that's not particularly important for portraits. Your 50 f1.4 (as mine is for me) will give you speed when you need it.

I think that this lens is a great but inexpensive choice.

it's a nice lens but i rarely use it because i also have a 28-135IS now
it's worth it's money i would say and great to use for portrait.

I have a 24-85 usm and thought something must be wrong with it as few were using it. It is not very popular but I love mine. See post " More lens advise please" on next page. I have my first pic with this lens there.
