I'm new to photography and consequently to post processing as well. I took some shots today in the cool air and the subject's nose got red(see pic below). I'm using CS2, how can I make the redness "less intense"? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A number of ways .

Healing brush , take sample from good skin .

Clone tool with low opacity and soft brush .

Select around area Copy paste into new layer then Hue saturation adjustment for the red channel on that layer , then play with blending and opacity.

Sponge tool to desaturate the area

Hue saturation adjustment layer for red channel them paint out the mask on the adjustment layer to reveal all but the nose which is adjusted by the layer .

Personally I would usually use paintshoppro for a job like this. Merely because of the fact that I know psp better than ps. However I think you can correct this problem in photoshop by hotkeying ctrl + u and by upping the hue a little. [make sure colourize is unchecked] or hotkeying ctrl + b and playing those sliders a little until you come to something natural. Then you may wish to play around with the contrast and brightness if it still doesnt quite look right.

I'm sure there are other methods on getting round this, just experiment and find what works best for the particular photo you're working on.

simple stuff

image->adjustments->selective color

then from there make sure its on RED, then slide the black to -100%
