:?: Anyone have any information/pictures they can share concerning this lens. I am looking to purchase something in this focal length, and i'm curious how this lens compares to a canon 500mm f4.5.
thanks

It is simply the most amazing lens I have worked with.

I have no direct experience with the Canon but I did use a Nikon 500mm f/4 with an F5 film camera,. this lens seems to me to be it's equal in every aspect (mind you the 10D does not have the F5's AF or metering.. so I need to do a little judgement factoring in my head)

It is lighter than any of the other "Big 500s"

The drop in rotatable filters are a pleasure...

heck.. let me stop here and link you to my review..

Really,. I love this lens.

I'm also curious how this lens compares to the Canon 500mm f4.5.
I owned the Sigma 300mm f2.8 EX HSM and the Canon 300mm f2.8L USM and the images of the Canon were superior to the Sigma, especially when enlargements/crops of the photos were compared. But in testreports, the Sigma 500 f4.5 EX HSM seems to be optically superior to the Sigma 300 f2.8 EX HSM . Can anyone confirm this?

thx

Luc

I bought the Sigma 500 4.5 EX APO HSM this past Christmas, based on what CDS had said and posted, and reviews I had read. I've only used it a couple of times since I got it, (Too Freaking Cold!). It gives a very bright viewfinder, and focuses very fast. My initial shots are not as good as CDS but here are a couple:

I'm hoping the fact I got a new Wemberly Head recently will improve my ability to capture the moving ones!

Good luck,
Scott
