This is an old chalice from the orthodox church of the village of Jeravna (http://wave.prohosting.com/jeravna) in Bulgaria. I shot this composition in natural sunlight in the late afternoon. The photo is a part of a photo session for a company calendar. This one was not approved.

I believe it would benefit from a mild fill flash. You also have some burned spots in the sunflower. DOF is too big and you could have cleared all those background distractions. Understand that this is not saying "this is bad and that is bad..." its more like " you could improve it here and here and there".
Crop is nice and as for the composition itself well i guess its a matter or personal taste. All in all it looks nice.

I gess that warman is right. I just thought that while it might have been accurate in the magic hour.. it was a bit severe (hi contrast, saturated colors, and sharpness) for me and this subject.

All in all I like the composition, except... I can't believe this bothers me so... except for the artificial flowers!

I think I would have preferred the shot with just the chalice and nothing else. I find the flowers distracting.

Hello Again:

Here in North America all of the "talk" is about Mel Gibson's new movie on the Passion of Christ.

With that on my mind I looked at your shot again and I like the idea and the ancient look of the cup. I doubt that I would have donw as well as you have here. Well Done.

Hi HOWIE!
It was the idea of the photo - to have an ancient look.
