So I got £30 Jessops vouchers, and we all should know that in that place, that isnt alot to go on. I dont have the money to put towards getting a new Lens. So what about some Filters for my 70-200? I dont know anything about Filters to be honest. Are they worth it? What can they do for me?
Thanks all.

Quite honestly I wouldn't buy filters unless you're going to get Hoya SMC UV or polarising filters.
Round filters are, IMHO, the only way to go.
UV protects your lens. Polariser - well - polarises.
What I would suggest you might find more worthwhile would be a second battery.

. . . or a remote release or a new gadget bag? If this was "vouchers" plural, you may be able to swing 58 mm Hoya S-HMC or B+W MRC filters, or a 50 mm f/1.8 lens.

I managed to get £15 of vouchers, but I can't for the life of me think of anything to buy from the place either.

Giotto rocket blower?
Jessops do online printing now - maybe you can transfer them to an account and use them for, er, printing! Worth asking the store if you're interested in that.
They sell frames as well don't they, maybe give someone a gift of a photo of yours in a frame?
2nd battery is a very good suggestion - but Jessops are a total rip off for those sorts of things.
Buy some B&W film and experiment with it if you have a 35mm camera laying around?
Lens cloths... sensor cleaning kit?
Running out of ideas now!

You can't use them on the online store - I checked - not sure about the online printing site though, but I assume not as well :(

I use jessops all the time. In fact im going to use them today. Very simple. I look up bristol cameras and warehouse express, print off the price of what I want then use the price match policy to get it locally without waiting for the postman. A fortnight ago I bought a 580 ex speedlite. Jessops wanted 329.99 (Ouch!) Bristol cameras wanted 269.00. So I used the £60 quid vouchers that had been given to me to bing that down to 209! ;) Add that to the £35 rebate voucher I had from canon and I paid only £174 of my own hard earned money. (I know the vouchers are 60 quid but I didnt pay for em so in my mad mind they dont count! HAHA)

Looks like they are not always honouring the price matching... :-(

what i would do is head in, tell the guy at the counter that if he can lower the ridiculous prices of their lenses then you'll give him them for nothing :D
if that fails, you could possibly put it towards a backpack for all your camera gear. thats what i keep meaning to get for when i start hiking again

Cokin ND8 GND filter and adapter ring to fit your 70-200.
Don't believe you will only ever need a wide angle for landscape shots.
Besides a another £7 adapter ring will mean the filter holder will fit on your wide angle.

I can confirm that Jessops are no longer price matching, I; like a fool asked family to get me Jessops gift vouchers for Christmas. I usually go there with Internet print out of a cheaper price in hand and they match it, I got £80.00 worth in all to put towards a second 580EX Flash. They wouldn't price match and I ended up paying full price i.e. £40.00 more than Warehouse Express were asking, if I could have thought of anything else I wanted at around £80.00 I would have told them to shove it; but I couldn't. It's very annoying to think I might as well have just thrown £40.00 worth of those vouchers in the bin, I contacted Jessops just to make sure the guy in the store wasn't just pulling a fast one; knowing I had vouchers that I couldn't spend any where else and got this reply.
"** High Priority **
Dear Mr Emmett,
Thank you for your email dated 27th December 2006.
Whilst our aim is to remain competitive on the High Street, from time to time as with all retailers, prices do vary and change at specific times.
I am able to confirm that our price match promotion has now finished and this is long term unless the board of directors advise of any change.
I would like to apologise for inconvenience that this matter may have caused you.
Yours sincerely,
Christian Liquorish

I don't like gift vouchers; they're nothing more than encumbered cash.
As a matter of principle, I would rather support the outlets who are courageous enough to offer lower prices than to use their competitors who will give the lower price only if you point out their competitors' deal. The organisation that price matches wins both ways - they get the higher price if people don't realise, and they still get the business if you are aware of cheaper prices.
It's possible that Jessops have deliberately decided to stop price matching now that many people have vouchers in their hands. Maybe it's less deliberate than that, though - my impression is that they have been very intermittent with price matching recently.
All Jessops' "bricks and mortar" stores have overheads involved - and there's almost certainly going to be a price penalty over online pricing.
Most things in Jessops are not price competitive (their pricing on things like memory cards and most Canon EOS bits are expensive), also the range is not slanted towards DSLR users anyway. I use them mainly for 'distress purchases' - when I need a cleaning product or other small item and don't want to wait for shipping, or when Jessops work out cheaper than buying online when shipping is included.
If I had some vouchers, I may well use them on printer supplies as the money can't be recovered in a more liquid form; it has to be used. That said, Jessops' range of supplies often aren't that price competitive compared to the likes of LambdaTek, oyyy.co.uk, Ameiva and their ilk, also their range in my local stores is rather skewed towards own brand and Canon, with a dash of Epson and very little HP (not that helpful for someone like me whose photo printer is an HP B9180, as almost every HP paper apart from the range of Advanced Photo Papers are swellable and no use for the pigment based B9180). The packs of paper also tend to be the smaller packs which are expensive anyway. I have seen some third party branded papers in Jessops in the past, but not recently.

I know that financially they have been bleeding money, so maybe the Board of Directors thought why are we doing this? Although their pricing is crazy. I work in Newbury and went in to look the 70-200 IS (before I got one for crimbo) they had it for 1699! Picked up their mag from the desk and it was in there for 1450!
Cmon guys sort it out!
