Ordered my new toy today. My business, fortunately, is a very good customer. Will pay slightly less than $4,499 price that I have been seeing. My sale rep, and he is EXTREEMLY reliable, claims 2 to 3 weeks. I told him he was dreaming, maybe 2 to 3 months. He then offered to throw in an extra battery if it takes more than a month. Hope I have to buy that extra battery!

My Corporate rate pricing at CDW brings the 1D MK II to $4355.18. We're in the process of ordering a very large amount of hardware and software. My Rep said he could easily work the MK II into the deal for $4,000.00 flat. Unless you are an entity which spends over $100,000.00 annually through CDW - calling them will net you zero discount as compared to other online vendors - even then it's up to your Rep and the relationship you and they have built..

My 2003 bonus and tax return would handily cover that with a little to spare; but the wife reminds me that we have a basement to finish. It's still a bit cold outside so I think I'll err on the side of living in the house and get the basement finished as opposed to being able to take incredible pictures while freezing to death. (where's the freezing to death/clutching an EOS 1D Mark II emoticon when you need one!?).

You used 2 "B" words I don't understand... "Bonus" and "Basement"..

Some other people I know have ordered from CDW  8)

Kidding

That is a tough call. However it would be easy for me. Since I already live in the dog house, I'd order the Mark II and use the box and packing material to start finishing one wall in the basement

You really should not be posting prices. Those are corporate account prices and NOT available to the general public. Now your friendly rep at CDW is going to be inundated with every Photo-Joe on the Net wanting corporate prices. :(

Ooooof. Rebuke acknowledged. However, my Rep doesn't have a problem with it. He say's you have to spend a large amount of money for his phone to ring in the first place and he doesn't have a problem offering a similar deal to his customers. (referenced post edited to note exclusive corporate situation - Photo-Joe's need not apply). I told him that someone would have to turn away the calls... he just laughed and said "They can handle it; are you sure you don't want me to earmark that camera for you? ".

(Just the same, implied secret code of corporate conduct re: forum posting noted - I'll show restraint in future secret handshake posts).

PSA: BTW, if I'm already financially able to consider a $4,000.00+ camera I shouldn't have a problem paying online retail at $4,400.00. If the $400.00 is enough to send me griping about that guy down the street who has a corporate discount- perhaps I should be doing something different with my money in the first place.

Ordered My Mark II Today! Hope CDW is Quicker Than Dell!!

I bet CDW Wouldn't be faster than Dell if they got 1400 orders for the same mis priced lens in one day...

... one of the risks of ordering on a great deal and announcing it from the rooftops in the same heartbeat

True enough. One difference however, is that CDW doesn't mince words if/when pricing errors occur and their ordering system is linear (literally first in first out order basis w/out multiple queues to usurp the process). I'll leave it at that as I see a great potential for playing secretary to yet another online order sitch. Though not all a similar scenario.

My sale rep, and he is EXTREEMLY reliable, claims 2 to 3 weeks.

For what it's worth, I tried to order my D60 from CDW back when it had been out for about 5 months. The web site was showing it as "in stock" when I ordered, but I was then told it was back-ordered, and after waiting 2 months I finally gave up and ordered from somewhere else (got it in a few days). That put me off of CDW for this sort of thing (though they've been fine for computer stuff).

YMMV, of course.

Hmmm. Wonder how many people are logging on to Dell everyday (or even every hour) to see if Dell has, per chance, posted the 1DII for sale at a rediculously low price of, say, $3500? Hey, if it can happen once, it can happen twice, right?

So true. In fact when I went to my account to see the MKII once it was online, it was listed on my bisuness account as cheaper than what my account mgr originally quoted me. Of course, he reduced the price even lower now.

CDW rocks! Back when I bought my 10D people were waiting for weeks. Mine was shipped one day after ordering!!

If you have a business, set up and account. It's worth it folks.

Sketcher: BTW: I pointed my account manager to this thread and he didn't really care that much. He said, "Well, at least it's all good stuff!!" Our guys don't handle the general public calls anyway, so it's no big deal. It's just nice to be able to get an under-MAP price for this baby. And even at that, $4999 is a fair price. I planned on spending that much anyway so this is just a bonus.

Didn't mean to start all of this. Just got too excited I guess. I have purchased everything from CDW except for my 10D body. To be honest, they are my favorite "Camera Discount Warehouse".

Can't say enough good things about them. Have purchased all of my Mac's (go ahead, have fun with that one too) and software from them during the past few years. I would suggest you give them a try. You might be amazed at the Canon stuff they sell. They understand quality customer service.

Found out yesterday that I can expect my new toy (and extra battery) on May 10, 2004!!! Sounds reasonable. CDW expects Canon to ship END of April. May all of us fortunate to have a Mark II on order receive them on the same day.

May? :( I haven't heard from my guy yet. He's checking with his guy at Canon. As long as it's EARLY May that's fine. I'd prefer an April date though.

Jim:

You seem to have been the first here to pull the trigger and I hope that you get yours first, you deserve it!. You have been on top of it, I think you even came the closest here in predicting the camera, maybe last fall?

I think we will have better luck with the Mark II having a timely arrival simply because of the price point. I don't think it is going to sell as fast as the 10D. Then again, will Canon produce it in comperable numbers? Now I'm starting to worry.

My sales rep (and he had NO problem with this thread) says the number ordered is LOW and completely manageable. Nothing like the 10D.

I ordered mine a couple of days after RFM. My two local retailers (Canoga Camera and Woodland Hills Camera) say they expect Canon to ship the first allocations in March. So, I'm *hoping* to get it in my hot little hands end of March early April.

Add me to the CDW list. I just ordered mine this morning, and they're still saying 'late April, early May.' I'm no. 15 on their list. Wish I was up there with a couple others I know of, but it'll happen when it happens.

Now, I have to start getting serious about unloading some non-essentials to make room in the wallet.

St. Jude, pray for me.

I'll bet that half of those 15 post right here. :D

And no, I'm not one of them. I have a few years to enjoy the 10D first!

PS - any non-essential that says "400" and "L" on it might interest me (as long as the manual focus works). ;)

Damn, there must be at least 15 people that have ordered the 1DMKII already (including me). That's a lot of money. I think, come April we are all going to need group therapy....and perhaps marriage counseling or lawyers.
