AiAF vs Centre?

I've been reading a bit on this ... I'm new to photography and have an A630 ... auto focus vs centre ... auto can be good (if youre lucky) or bad (if you want a guarunteed shot quickly) i guess..

Any radical arguments out there ... is there a norm? (e.g. leave it as centre)?

Leave at center - generally the AiAF algorithm takes more time to decide where to place the focus. With center area only you always know what will be in focus and it will be there faster.
