Hi,

I am trying to shoot with strobes and hence set my camera (10D) to manual mode. I then set the shutter speed and aperture as per the values indicated on my light meter. Now when I look at the exposure level indicator it is displayed on the far left of the scale (-2).

Speaking with a friend of mine who has far more experience than me. he said that in Manual mode the exposure level indicator should be centered.

If my setting is correct, then can someone please explain how I can compensate for skin tone/color if I am unable to increase/decrease exposure compensation.

Comments are appreciated.

Shafiq

Since the camera isn't recording the strobes' light then the settings will appear underexposed per the camera's meter. Trust the light meter (which I assume you tested with the strobes' flash).

You will be able to adjust this by normal methods (longer shutter, etc.) though the camera's meter may still register -2. If the ambient light is actually at -3 your camera will still register -2 since it just can't go that low.

In manual mode you'll adjust exposure comp buy adjusting the aperture or ISO. Your shutter is set to the x-sync speed, 1/200 I think.

The nice thing about using a 10D is that you have the histogram to use as a guide. Make test shots and adjust accordingly. Shoot in RAW mode for a little more exposure latitude and expose to the right as much as possible.
