IMO, no need to go for a faster card unless you absolutely *NEED* to download your images to the computer faster and you really really need to use burst mode all the time.

The main reason there is no need to get a super duper fast card is that the 350D can't write to a card faster than round 6.5mb/s, iirc.

I personally use el-cheapo 2gb cards from www.7dayshop.com £18 for 2gb.

cheers guys, al check them out.
yeah Ephemeral, thats why i mentioned i have the 350D. theres only a certain speed that camera can write so it would be pointless with a faster card.
al check out the links. thanks :D

Since Rob Galbraith (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7699) shows a 5x difference in performance between the slowest and fastest cards tested on the 350D, saying that a faster card is "pointless" is a little rash. OP says he's using Kingston cards; his Elite Pro's 2/3 the speed of the SanDisk Extreme III in the camera - the SanDisk would be able to take 1.75 frames (RAW) for every one his Kingston could. With a nominal 5-frame buffer, that can be significant especially if you're shooting a sequence in single-shot mode.

Try picstop.co.uk or mymemory.co.uk

Cant recall which of those sites it is now but one has the Sadisk EX III 1GB for £17.99.

thanks for the insight there jon. as much as i dont do alot of burst shots its always good to have that choice. so you say the sandisks are a good choice?

thanks for the link lisa, checkin it out just now

They're what I use. I've filled the buffer single-shotting on the 20D at about 2 frames/sec (RAW+JPEG) in 150 sec., and in a couple of minutes at 10 frames/minute on slower cards.

The price difference between the fastest and slowest card may also influence the OP's card choices.

I suppose one thing *I* need to take into account in future posts about card speed vs camera write speed is that I am lucky enough to shoot with a 5D. With a native RAW buffer of around 16 pics and 60 jpegs it's good enough to manage most burst situations for me.

I would say go for the fastest card you can afford. Maybe in the future you wil upgrade the body and then it is very likely that the new body writes faster so if you go for the cheapest cards you may end up having to upgrade cards as well as the body.

And I stick to SanDisk cards.

yeah this is what i always plan when buying photography gear. i always try to go for the best that i can afford, and i could afford the fastest 2gb or 4gb card so i will most likely go for a sandisk extreme. :D

Have a look on here:

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat2.html

Amazon seem to come out cheapest on most CF Card products.
