I saw a Sigma 70-210 f2.8 on ebay that works on the seller's D30. Will it work with my D Rebel?...Dean

If the Sigma was manufactured AFTER the year 2000, it SHOULD work on the DRebel. Before 2000, it MAY have to be rechipped. If you get it for a good price, go for it, because the rechipping is no charge from Sigma Service.

Do be aware, however, that the wait can be quite long.

I scored a Sigma 100-300 DL for a very good price but can only use it wide-open. Called Sigma yesterday and they said 'send it on out'. I inquired on the turn-around time and was told it is anywhere between one and three months!

Malaxos,

If it is a 70-210mm then it is indeed an older lens ...

and ther eis NO guarantee that it will function on the 10D (D30 or no D30.. it still may not work)

The new compatible version of this lens is the 70-200mm EX (note NOT 210mm)

I have yet to hear of a single 70-210mm that DID work with a 10D without getting re-chipped first.

If you want to avoid the re-chip process,. avaid the 210mm version... on the other hand,. optically the 210 is still a dream,. the biggest difference is the focus motor.. the newer version is HSM = faster and quieter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did call Sigma and they informed me that it was older. The woman told me that she would trade me for the newer lens. I had to tell her that I didn't own it but was just questioning it. I would get the lens and trade if I knew for sure that I would get her again or someone else who would make the same deal...Dean
