Hoya Polarizers (green package vs purple package)

hello POTN,

i am about to purchase a polarizer off ebay.
however, i am noticing that there are two kinds of hoya polarizers, ones that come in a green package, and one that comes in a purple package.

the purple ones seem to be at a higher cost, but im not sure why.

after some googling, the purple package is supposedly double coated, whereas the green is only single. is this true?

am i better off with a double coated or single coated filter?

nvm i couldnt wait, i just bought the purple.

Green is really bottom end, supposedly not even using true optical grade glass. Purple is just one up from that. Ideally you should go for higher filters with multicoating to avoid the risk of flare, ghosting and other distortion.
