View Full Version : Hook on tripod for bag.

I've seen a couple of posts that reference a hook on a tripod that you can hang your camera bag from. I assume the main point is to add mass to the tripod so it will be more stable. My tripod doesn't have a hook, but I could easily add one. I'm wondering if it would be worth it.

My Feisol has a hook on the bottom of the center column. Hanging the backpack from that hook seems to add stability to the tripod and keeps the backpack up and off of the ground.

As Doc said, those are the two pluses.

However, one minus I find is if it's windy. The bag then acts as a sail and can make the tripod less steady.

Sure, I guess if it's windy I just wouldn't hang the bag.
