Well here we go again. I just sent in my 2 10D's to CPS and 3 Lenses 17-35L,28-135IS,24-70L. I am having a lot of out of focusing problems with the 10D's with these lenses. My 300 F2.8L,70-200L f4,85 1.8,50 1.8,Sigma 20 1.8,105 macro work just fine. So I should have them back with in the next few days. Canon CPS recommends sending in your lenses with the SLR bodies so they can fine-tune the lenses to work better with the cameras or so they say. We will see. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new 1D MK II and sell off the 10D's. I am tired of semi good focusing Digital SLR's. The 1D looks like my kind of camera speed and a great A/F system :P

I agree.....my 10D's don't focus well either. Luckily, depth of field saves me on most pictures. Interested to see your results.

I seem to be one of the blessed who has had no focus issues..
... but I am still eagerly waiting to see how my MkII compares!!!
Also,.. I had never had a lot of Canon lenses before,. but I am now nearly 100% Canon.. (all except my big telephoto) so I may think serioulsy about sending the whole kit for this focus calibration thing some day.....
On the other hand,. if the 1D performs flawlessly... I may not be willing to risk any unnecesary maintanance.

Us "ordinary" folks have to wait about 10 days or so to get our 10D and lenses back. I took mine in to the NJ repair center last week for sensor cleaning and focus calibration, along with all my 3 canon lenses. My warranty's will expire in two week so I decided to do without the gears for a few days to get the work done for free while I still could. :)

Physically what do Canon do when they recalibrate? Hardly the camera cos would have to compromise across the differing lenses? If the lens then would have to be focus distance from rear element? Shims behind the lens mount? Might have a go at that myself!!

Not sure what the did. The invoice says "ADJUSTED FOCUS WITH STANDARD FACTORY LENS CHECK" I guess this they checked the Lenses to the body’s? What ever they did it seem to have helped.

I was curious, since I would be using the same repair center, what was the procedure when you dropped your stuff off? Did you still have to pack all you stuff up or just carry it in?

I took my 70-200 and 100-400 in it's case and gave them the whole thing. The 10D and the 28-135 I gave them as is although I did drive them over in a camera bag. Basically all you have to do is drive over and hand them all your gear you want checked. The only reason I left the cases for the long lenses is because I didn't want them to get banged up but it wasn't required. I took left the filters, battery and CF card at home since they're not required (and less chance of them loosing it although the do inventory everything you give them including the lens and rear caps. Just be sure to double check the inventory 'cuz they do make mistakes like they did with one of mine.)

I specifically asked Chuck Westfall whether it was sensible to send kit in for recalibration as part of a regular service like a car. He said: no, only send it in, if experiencing problems.
