I ended up getting the cannon adapter and teleconverter lens for christmas.

I seem to have problems with getting clear images when zoomed in 80% or more. The camera for sure struggles getting focused. I'm thinking the only way I'm going to get the most out of this is going to be to use my tripod?

Could try manual focus...just a thought, I know it's bothersome at times to have to wait on the AF. Of course I haven't messed much with manual either :P

Are you using the digital zoom, or just the optical, when you say "80%" zoomed in? The digital zoom will degrade the image somewhat. Use of the TC shouldn't significantly reduce the image quality, although it will "magnify" any movement and make accurate focus more critical. So stopping down, even if you must use a tripod, will help.

Have you set the menu option to tell the camera you're using a teleconverter? There seems to be little difference in turning on that setting -- I personally think it only puts the "potential camera shake" warning up sooner -- but it might have some other subtle changes that could help.

I have thought about the manual focus, would rather not use it however.

I'm hoping to give the TC another try in some really good lighting outdoors. That should allow a better f-stop for focusing. I'll also bring out the tripod and see how that goes.

I'm not using digital zoom, what I mean by 80% is in mention to the zoom bar on the display. Not sure if that is linear but if it is linear then it would be (12zoom x .8) x 1.5 and that is about a 14.4x zoom which is higher then a full out zoom.

I have always turned on the TC option in the menu and did notice the icon for IS has a T in it. I'll have to do some reasearch to see if it changes anything else.

Check out an old thread of mine.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I find that when my S2 is zoomed out at 12x (digital disabled), I can't get a clear picture to save my life. I've tried with all modes (including manual), but I still can't figure it out, so I just deal with it. I still think there's something wrong with my camera, but others I know who also have an S2, seem to have the same problem (as well as horrible pics in low lighting), so who knows.

I'll make sure to post some results once I can use my tripod and the camera. Its snowing out and I don't even think there is enough visibility to use all the zoom.

I'll play with settings a lot and take tons of pictures.

Bottom line is that I hope our point and shoots aren't limited by this.
