Just shot this outside. Wish I had more time shooting. It was soooo freezing I just fired off some shots and picked this one...

Yes, 100-400. I think it's a lot easier shooting the moon at night....

I don't think your eyes were fooling. This is the very first moon shot during the day, and I find that it's easier shooting the moon at night. I need to spend a lot of time and learn how to shoot better, but man I was freezing outside when I took this photo that I don't even know what I did... :)

Here's a revised version. I don't know whether it's an improvement if any:

Nice shot I was there this morning at 8:00 shooting an impressive loft moon setting. Real punchy this month.

Thanks. I've been taking some moon shots with my new 100-400, and I JUST discovered that I've shot all of them without turning off the IS on my tripod..... I gotta take them all over again.

nice did you use the 2x extender too or just the 100 - 400 lens

This one was just with the 100-400. I did experiment with the 2x and learned that 100-400 + crop yields better results than 100-400 + 2x.

Since I don't own the 1.4x, I wouldn't know except to guess that it'd be better than 2x.

Thanks for looking! :D

I shot the same moon a few days earlier with the same lens in full auto mode, AF with IS on F5.6 at 1/360th. Why would you want IS off? Why shoot again?

Because the manual states that you can have mixed results if you leave the IS on when using a tripod. It clearly states to turn the IS off on a tripod, and I'm curious as to whether I'll have a better result although what I got was pretty decent.
