I'm trying to take care of my equipment. I'm used to Haselblad setups and my heavy Nikons that could really take abuse. G1 in comparison to them is a toy. When not in use my G1 is in a photo wrap. And it has a filter plus a cap on the Kenko adapter. But... G1 is a camera and I love to take pictures anywhere and anytime. I realized that my care about the camera was paying me back by loosing photos and relaying more and more on my 35mm setup.

Last weekend I had enough. Friday night was bar hoping night and my G1 was there. Saturday was a paintball game and G1 did an extraordinary job (it took 2 hours to clean all that paint off :) ). Saturday night was another bar hoping night. G1 was there too. And finally on Sunday I hiked and climbed all day.

I took about 300-350 pictures. Didn't charge battery. More and more my G1 becomes an everyday shooting tool instead of a toy. I'm just still scared about the microdrive but that can be fixed with a flashcard if needed.

Glad to see someone who isn't afraid to knock their camera around a little! I am afraid that I may be "Babying" mine too much and am missing shots.

A camera is a tool. Use it as such.

This is an interesting subject. I do see the possibillity of "Babying" a camera too much, while not getting the use it was intended for. I have to plead guilty to this charge myself on ocaision.

I very frequently use my G5 with a 1GB Microdrive as a (invaluable) tool for my work at a steel factory.
I can assure you that conditions there are anything but favorable for a delicate device like a camera, but it still works like a charm.
The lens is protected by a Lensmate with a UV-filter, and a use a OP/TECH wrist-strap as a safety precaution, as dropping it means killing it.
Of course I try to keep it as clean as possible but I always have to wipe off the (very abrasive) dust after use.
The compact size, wonderful low-light capability and enormous DOF make it almost ideal for this purpose.
If only it could be manually focused more easily and accurately......
