you dont have your camera with you but see the perfect moment? then you run inside to grab it and your tripod and when you come back the moment has gone :( just happened to me, the moon was low (never seen a full moon so low) and the storm clouds had created a perfect frame so the moon had blue sky behind it but the foreground was storm cloud (black black sotrm clouds) by the time i got my gear the damn clouds had covered the moon, i waited another hour and those damn clouds kept coming :( not to mention it was smack bang dead centre in my lane way so the buildings on either side would have also added to it, ohh and the lighting was absolutely perfect :cry: :cry: :cry:

There was a beautiful pink sky here about 5 days ago, I sprinted for my camera then realised I had no clear shot (boring street houses and garden fences all round no matter where I looked), no shoes or shirt on to go out. I gave up and just enjoyed it.
but yea it bummed me out.

I remember the first 6 months with a camera, I was determined to use it in M mode, by the time I had remembered to set aperture, shutter speed, ISO, zoom and compose whatever I was looking at had gone. I contented myself with tree shots for a while, they don't move too fast ;)

Happened last week when my husband called me on his cell phone. I grabbed the 5D, ran outside and the pink was gone and the sun went way lower than optimal lighting time. I almost cried. Oh well. Thank heavens there are always sunsets :).

That's why I always have my camera with me. Now if I can only learn how to use it.

lol thx brodie :P only reason i didnt have it was i went to get my phone from my car then noticed the moon , if i go out i always take it with me.

Happened to me just the other just two days ago also. I had the camera in one hand and the tripod in the other while moving locations during a sunrise shoot. The camera had a 10-22 on it and I was walking down the dunes to get closer to the surf. What do I spot in the shore break - a pod of dolphins. They surfaced twice before disappearing. No way I could have got a longer lens on in time, especially not on the beach. I framed it after they had gone just to see what I missed and it wouldn't have worked at the 22 end, the fins would have been two small grey specks.

I decided that on vacation from now on, it's the 70-200 on the 20D and 24-70 on the 5D because it was ridiculous how many shots I missed. At Yellowstone, for anyone planning to shoot there, you can get many photo opportunities for wildlife, but only with longer lenses.
