I brought up this topic a few months ago, and I was wanting to revisit it. I shoot mostly sport photography for Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. This is my current setup:

EOS 1V
Canon 70-200 2.8L IS USM
Canon 300 4.0L IS USM
Canon 100 2.8L USM Macro
Tamron 1.4x Extender

I am investigating the digital market for Canon. If you have sport photography from D30, D60, 1D please post them up. I'd like to see the ability of these cameras in action sports. Please identify your camera and lens.

Thanks.

Transfix,

I've got quite a few shots in both my Motorsports Gallery (http://www.cecilwalker.com/photosite/motorsports.html) and my Events Gallery (http://www.cecilwalker.com/photosite/events/). Take a look and let me know what you think...

Cheers,
Cecil

I just bought a 135 F2 L and that acts as a

216mm F2 VERY GOOD for indoor sports.

I've added a 1.4x L and that makes it a

302mm F2.8 Very good for outdoor sports although kinda long and heavy w/o a collar, canon doesn't make one.

I don't have pics posted yet, but if you're going to shoot sports like I am, the D60 is the way to go.

You can downgrade the megapixel to 2.8mp and shoot 16 pics in a row. Whereas the D30 can only shoot 8 pics at 3.1mp. Pretty much the same quality. You can do this because the D60 has double the buffer the D30 has.

Or go nuts and get the 1d, 8 pics per sec, and about 20 in a row. And 100% viewfinder. The 100% viewfinder doesn't really matter that much in sports, but if you're doing portraits it's nice to see where your backdrop ends. I missed the backdrop a few times in group shots.

D60 is on order and...

I have a 50 1.4, 24 f2.8, 2 420ex's, 1 st-e2, and an old 70-210 f3.5 to 4.5 rear focus, works quite well, but replaced by the 100-300 rear focus F4-5.6.

All the sample images look great. The motorsport show the D30's ability. I suppose it's still a little to early to be getting feedback from the D60.

I love my 1V. Amazing camera.

I want to get a 400 2.8 however a Canon Digital with the multiplier would put my 300 4.0 at 390 4.0 which is definately good.

I shot some gymnastics stuff (inside) a couple of months ago, using a d30, a 1gb microdrive and a 70-200L lens
although a little slow when shooting multiple images, there are one or two that turned out ok.

i'm looking at a faster telephoto with i/s, this may have allowed me to blug the background.
