Hi all,

The new Norman arrived and for the past few days everything was working great. I had my first paid photo shoot yesterday and the evil flash died on my after 20 shots.   I charged the batteries prior to the shoot... the red light is blinking on the back of the flash head... the pocket wizards are charged and working. It just died on me... the only thing I can think of is the bulb blew... but...they should be good for 10K or so flashes... maybe I had a bad bulb? Anyone experience this....am I missing something with the flash? Is there something else I should check?

Thanks for your time...Happy New Year.

Flash tubes will usually last for years, although it is possible to have one go bad.Try tripping the flash manually. Usually there is a button on the flash head which will fire it. If it fires manually but not with the camera, then there is something wrong with the synch socket or pocket wizard system. If it won't fire manually, turn off the power, unplug the head from the pack and unplug the tube from the head. Replug tube and then the head and see if it works. If this cures it then the tube wasn't securely plugged in. If it still doesn't work then the problem is most likely a bad tube or fault in the flash unit's trigger circuit which would need to be diagnosed by a repairman.

Many thanks for the reply. A friend of mine has the same setup... it was the bulb... 40 flashes later and it is dead? My friend has had his for over 2 years now... time to order another bulb. If this one blows...there has to be something wrong with the flash head. Thank you again for the reply.

If your unit is new then the tube should be covered under warranty. I would return it to Norman and they should replace it. I would also buy a spare just in case. They can be broken since the small reflector doesn't offer alot of protection and the unit spends alot of time on location or in transit. If they still sell the UV coated tube separately that would be a very good idea for weddings as it keeps white gowns from going blue.
