Here you go, our first 2007 contest with the theme:

"NOBLESSE OBLIGE"

This is perhaps the most difficult one to date, and in order not to make it any easier, I shall not furnish any suggestions nor tips, just a couple of sample shots. Therefore you have a total freedom to portray the theme your way.

Mine fits son ... if one takes the concept to its root, i.e. the obligation of those better off (or the nobles!) towards those less fortunate ;-) Dunno what Moreyeel's up to tho'. Maybe subversion or high art. Who knows?

Well, I thought your medication was going to kick in this year, but obviously triple the dose is called for.

The non-specific offer of help, yet someone asking for help just around the corner goes unnoticed....so close but yet so far.

Hm, would a photo of the Donald and Miss Universe (or whoever that girl was) apply? Too bad I don't have a press pass.

I thought it was a secret  that I have had to begin intensive medication to combate POTN induced stress and anomie after it was revealed by Colliedogcat that I am on the ignore list of approx. 50 people (out of 85,550 members!) I have been crying without end since and now need to take a row boat from lounge to kitchen

Even better....if you get a shot of Donald making out (up ?) with Roseanne, oh boy, you'd strike gold !:D

Where in the world did you find that ketchup bottle?

An interesting story....the shot is of William Randolf Hearst's dining room table (note the monogrammed serviettes) who apparently used ketchup & mustard on most of his foods and insisted that they be served in the original containers. So in this case the obligation of nobility was self directed which will probably get this photo rejected when PetKal reads this :D

In all the time I lived in NorCal, and the numerous trips down the coast, I never stopped at San Simeon (I assume that's where it was taken) to visit the castle.

As far as the suitability of the image; in a sense, the eccentricities of the obscenely rich fit the definition of noblesse oblige. They serve to make us have nots less envious of them.:) That's very kind of them.

As I said before, an excellent 'ironic reversal'.

OK, we shall acccept this shot...kinda conditionally.
However, I feel compelled to note that they seem right in saying that you couldn't have taken more than a dozen shots or so in your entire life, however good they might be.;)

Very gracious of you, Pete.... I only enter this one into this contest in view of the fact that it's not been used in any other contest (well... yet...)

I am endevouring to extend my somewhat limited portfolio.

And hidden well they are. I can try to think within the framework of the Finnished cultural paradigm, however, the Vietnamise one is much more difficult to penetrate.

BTW, if you PM me your wife's cell phone No., then perhaps I can try to talk her into giving you the lens of your dreams next week.;)

Yeah, knowing you, you'd tell her the same thing you've been telling me: Save the money, get the 300 f4.

She probably wouldn't listen to you though, as she always tells me to get what I want, otherwise I wind up returning it.

Thank you, compadre, for sharing so many delightful photos with us.
I ain't sure about Maria, but Dr. Jakov's electricity bill must be quite overwhelming now that he's got that do-it-yourself ECT kit for Christmas.
