I caught this little butterfly at dusk. I am about 95% certain it is a Yellow-banded Dart (Ocybadistes walkeri).

The second shot was taken during the day. This is it's normal resting pose. I'm not sure why it seems to have tusks but they sure make it look mean ;)

Here's a stack of 2 shots. Could have got the same out of the camera, but obviously didn't give myself a small enough aperture... so I did the best with what I had... This is from the dusk series.

Very nice shots. I like the last one. We call them skippers over here.

Thanks Dave... I think it's just a matter of getting the best combination of camera work and PP.

I should note that this was using my EF 35-70mm and 48mm(?) of extension tubes. It works amazingly well for this sort of thing... you get the definition of a nifty fifty combined with the composition features of a zoom. The wierd part is that the zoom effect works backwards which takes some getting used to...

I think most people do. The butterfly freaks on the other hand... ;)
The common names of most of these small ones usually have either skipper or dart in there. I'll post some pictures I took of a Dispar "Skipper" tonight.

Great work with this one, some can be very Skittish, while others will pose all day.:D

Thanks Al & BE :)

Usually they are very timid, but this one seemed to be fairly tolerant of my lens in it's face. In the evening it was almost docile enough to coax onto my finger...

Excellent series Dan- great composition and clarity. Must admit was not sure about #1 at first but grows on you :)

Thanks Brian. Personally, I liked #1 from the moment I DL'd it. OK sure, it doesn't show much insect but I love how everything just fades to black.
