Just curious what most people are using out there for Post Production. CS2 is available on both, so I was just wondering why people use what they use.

Wow, I am somewhat suprised, but happy to see the Mac users out there. We all know they are the best!! I just figured for some reason in this forum PC would be more populer.....silly me.

well i think pc's are still more popular here, i think their users are just less vocal. mac users love an opportunity to brag;) dont see why you're surprised though, macs are normally favoured for graphics, and this is a photography forum:)

I have been a PC user, for photo editing, for over 6 years. Though I have been happy with my PC I am now inclining over to mac. My next computer will be mac!

i am switching to a custom pc for similar reasons. i love macs but i hate the fact that you can't do any upgrades to them unless you have a power mac which is too freaking expensive. i am in the process of selling my g4 powerbook for $1000 and by adding $500, i will have:
intel 2.13ghz core2 duo
500gb hard drive
7950GT video card
a nice case with room for 4 hard drives and 7 pci cards
4 gb ddr2 ram
great sound card
and much more...

I would agree that PC's are more customizable at a more affordable price.........and you will get REALLY fast at Start>Shutdown>Restart. :) :) and who doesnt love a frozen up computer in the middle of working :) Sorry just had to throw that in.

not if you know what you are doing, ive never had a problem, hate to say it but if youre smart enough to build your own pc, your smart enough to browse safely and not get viruses. run some spyware each morning and i have never had a problem.

I was probably the first Mac user on this Forum. I gave that up in 198 with Windows 98, really got tired of the Mac limitations!
Now, with the dual processors, I want to give it another try. I love Macs! But won't go back unless it can now operate Windows software without much of a slowdown. Macs are great, but the higher price is getting less and less justifiable as Windows gets closer and closer to the same user interface, at a fraction of the price. What annoys me more than most things is the closed minded air among some Mac users, as if they know some big secret. Even when I owned the mac and Windows was really horrible, I found it difficult to be smug over something as trivial as a machine, both of which could do about the same things! It's a machine, not a religion! Oh, I forgot, I have bought two Macs recently. Last year I bought my Mom (78 yoa) a 15" iBook and my Dad a 20" Mac.... can't even remember the name of them, but the machine is very cool, with no box and all built into the monitor which is nice and crisp. I hate to say it, but my father is not doing well at 82 and if he goes, I get that Mac back. I hope he lives another 20 years, but only if he gets some decent health back. But without dual processors, I have tried Virtual PC and that really sucks! Why do I want to run PC stuff, online poker, some banking, etc., still doesn't support Mac. As well as new programs that first come out, like Google Earth, develop for a Mac as an afterthought. I hated being the second class citizen in compatibility!

What coupons? Where can I get them?
My wife and relatives buy me Apple coupons every Christmas and birthday. $50 here, $100 there. It all builds up. I'm 3/4 of the way toward the most basic Macbook at the moment. I'm in no great rush.
I use PCs too but get a little tired of the whole virus/spyware/crimeware/adware/malware thing. I get a computer with a fast processor and enough memory so that I can use it and use the software I want to use. Then it gets constant updates, needs antivirus, anti spyware etc, all of which get more complex as the nasty people get more complex with their hacks etc and so my fast computer begins to run like a dog after about 6 months.
I put Linux on an abandoned PC yesterday with the aim of using it but wasn't that keen on the end result and put XP on it instead (there was an XP sticker on the PC) and I have an XP disk. I'll finish setting it all up over the weekend when I transfer a network card from an older PC into the latest.
I'll use Windows. I'm not that keen on it but I'm waiting until I can get a Macbook.

PC and MAC, the line is much thinner with having a pentium processor.I can not stress enough that in picture editing,I have nevever ever had mu PC frozen in a midle of the work.
I have Dell pc with a 4 gig DDRam dual procesor 2.13 megahertz 250 gig HD and 250 gig External HD.
Expecially working in Photoshop the BEST software in the world!!! I have Sophos antivirus and Sygate firewall and no viruses for 2 years.
PS I go on "trusted websites" and run mozilla firefox with no scrips software.
There is one thing you have to keep in mind if your Mac has a problem, and you get replacement part trough the warranty and Mac customer service, and you go ahead and replace that part, your warranty will be not good anymore.Even if you have 1 or 2 years left on your warranty.
Keep that in mind.

Well anytime you buy a computer, you have to take in hardware that's put in by the manufacture, and its not always that great, nor usable on any other machines except that particular brand.
That's where custom building is nice. I'm sure there are many that would use the Apple side of software if it were made for that as well.
Frozen computer is not about Mac vs. PC(even though both are actually PC's). That's about RAM, most of the times. I've gotten my share of Mac's stuck just as much as I've gotten PC's stuck.

Commodore 64... only the best!
BS. The Vic-20 was far better!
Actually, I had the Vic-20 and never really saw what people wanted with the Commodore 64. I know there were fights in the schoolyard regularly between Vic-20 and ZX80/1 owners and between Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum owners.
Even now there's very little to distinguish the Vic-20 from the Commodore 64.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Windows Vista, the new computer operating system that Microsoft Corp. is touting as its most secure ever, contains a programming flaw that might let hackers gain full control of vulnerable computers.

NEW YORK .....
But the forum has figured out how to validate only larger companies, the ones incorporated by a government agency and thus listed in its databases. General partnerships, unincorporated associations, sole proprietorships and individuals are excluded......
Smaller and newer companies could lose business if consumers leave for larger, established merchants with green bars.

I have both and use each for a different purpose. I personally do not think either is overall better, but each is better at different things. I also have a Linux box for those times when I want to just explore what computing power is all about.

Apple ][ in 1978 :) Still have that guy boxed up in the basement....ahh the days of Locksmith 8.0 :)
Bought my first PC in 1985 -- KayPro with 640K RAM and a 20MEG HD...bad a## machine.
Today I use a Dell Dimension with Win PRO, 2 Meg of RAM, and 900 Gigs of HD (backup the backup).
If you are in the government and business world as I am then the PC is a necessity. Now my son with his MAC PowerBook would argue this point ;)

Have been building my own PCs for the last 15 years. I run an XP box and a Linux box. Actually a few years ago I was using Linux exclusively because that's what we had as our work desktops, but then I left that job and got sucked back into the Windows world. Thank goodness for Cygwin.
I remember the first time I tried to use a Mac many years ago I just couldn't get past not having a command prompt. They do look nice, though. Been about 10 years since I've used a Mac. To each her own.

My first PC was a TRS-80. I bought the whole thing---even their custom desk. It was pretty useless. My first 'real' computer was a DEC Rainbow, but it was limited by little available software, and CP/M, which was rapidly disppearing.
From there, I went to Mac. I bought one of the very first 128K machines, and remained loyal to Apple for a few years. I generally stayed current with mac hardware up till around 2000. During the entire time, I was also using PCs because my work demanded it. I 2001, I retired (sort of), and moved to an area that had no Mac suppliers within 100 miles, so I decided to convert to Windows 100%.
Fast forward 5 years, and I'm back in the Mac Saddle again. I currently have a 17" Macbook Pro, and a Mac Pro tower. The tower is connected to two 23" Apple displays (much like Coops has, but not as neat). My PC is used strictly for business, and has been relegated to a corner of the office.
As to which is better? No vote. There are arguments in favor of each, and except for a very few people with specific needs, arguing which is better is much like debating colors. Is blue better than red?
