Anyone got any ideas on common things around the house to shoot that might look cool? And if you want, how to set them up..lighting, background etc...

:) No pets......well no fuzzy pets, just fish and frankly right now the tank needs to be cleaned :)

And if you simply can't shoot a cat, then shoot a dog.

Actually, shoot everything! In every way you can think of. You never know when "Burnt Toast on a Paper Towel" will will national awards for composition and lighting, i.e., it was there, the kitchen light was on, and the sun was shining through the window and refelcting off the refrigerator).

get creative and shoot anything!

that's the only way to learn. shoot lots, look at the pictures and ask yourself, what don't you like about this picture and what can you do to improve it?

whether is lighting, composition or subject, you will find your way!

I am personally having loads of fun shooting the 2 dogs I am dogsitting for the week.

I guess my neighbor has a cat, but its outdoor, I will have to chase it down somewhere.

Beer bottles, jewelry, candles, cheese graters, musical instruments, heating vents, computer printers.... basically anything. Experiment and be creative.

If it doesn't move, shoot it from a tripod!

But always shoot it!
