My D60 is for the first time since my purchase showing me the message Err 99 when I take the first picture after having reformatted a CF card. After that it only happens when I try to use the pop-up flash. I doo not know what I did with the camera handbook for info so perhaps someone here can shed some light on this error message and how to fix the problem.

Try removing then reinstalling the battery. Also, try removing the lens and cleaning the lens/body contacts. I believe that ERR 99 is associated with a lens problem.

Good Luck!

Actually Error 99 is unfortuantely an "Unknown error"

Which means it can be anything.

I've gotten Error 99 twice on my 10D,. both tims it was NOT lens related.

Once it was too cold,, and the voltage drop in my battery was such that the shutter stuck...

The other time was when trying the MagicStor 2.2GB Microdrive which wreaked havoc...

Sorry this is of no help at all :?

Hi

I dont know if ythe problem you have is the same i had, but ...

I had a err 99 on my 10D two weeks ago. after pressing the shutter th camera was freezing on err 99. i had to reboot the camera to unfrreze it. My problem was related to the shutter (the second shutter click was not occurring).

I had to send it back to canon to replace the shutter.

Which this can help

good luck

I've also had the error before, everytime I used my lens at it's widest angle the camera would freeze.

Replaced the lens, no more problems.

ps. Have you checked to see that nothing is hindering the flash from popping up?

Have you checked to see that nothing is hindering the flash from popping up?

That gets you an Err 5.

got error 99 during a photo shoot in the slot canyon area of northern Arizona (bad timing eh). It was very cold so I asumed it was the battery and proceded to change it several times. No luck.

Sent in the camera and lens to Canon and on the phone the tech at Irvine told me it was the LENS causing the error 99.

Soo try switching lenses and cleaning the contacts first

I've heard that this can be caused by a worn-out shutter mechanism. You might want to send it in for servicing.
