Probably a dumb question here. But what do I need to remote trigger the Sigma flash-gun? Would the Canon unit work, or do I need a Sigma equivalent?

I know people have used 550EX and 580EX Speedlites as master with the Sigma Super as slave. POTN member Forkball has reported that this works pretty well. I believe others have used the Canon ST-E2 to fire the Sigma Super also (don't quote me on that).
If you don't own any of those units, then the "Sigma equivalent" is another Sigma Super flash. It costs less than any of the Canon alternatives. With Sigma's wireless flash system, you can set the master to fire or not as desired.
Of course, if you don't need E-TTL metering for the remote flash, you could put it in optical slave mode and trigger it with any manual flash on the hotshoe, or with a PC cord or radio slave system.
