Hey all.. managed to convince a friend to pose for some portrait practice. Let me know what you think - any constructive criticism is MOST welcomed. Was experimenting with a few different angles that I don't usually do.

There are more but I'm too tired to post-process them now and I won't have time for a couple of days so I figured I'll post before I forget.
Thanks for looking :)

I like the last the best, although you cropped her hand too closely on the bottom, chopping off the fingers of her left hand. Otherwise it is a very good portrait. The first is also very good, but the second is at too odd an angle for me. Thanks for sharing.

I like #2 a lot. Good pose and good tonalities
Image #1 I don't like and image #3 has her back too curved and her hands are amputated.

The first pic, the pose looks defensive & cold (along with the skintone) whereas shooting from above her in #2 makes the pose softer & more flattering...also her skin tones look warm, which is nice.
Not too keen on #3 for the reasons already mentioned above.

she doesnt look very comfortable or relaxed in these. although these are nice technically, i wonder if you have any of her not hunched foward?

3 is my favourite, but I like 1 as well. What was the lighting on these? Obviously outdoor and just fill flash?

Yeah... I wasn't paying enough attention to the bottom of the frame in this one when I took it and didn't realise I cut her hand off until post-processing. Something to keep in mind for next time.. I think this was only one of about three this time around that I screwed up on and cut people's bits off.
Thanks for the comment :)

Thanks... It's interesting, most of the people so far seem to either like #2 or #1 but generally not both : )

Thanks :) Regarding #3.. her back just didn't look natural when I got her to straighten it so I left it as she felt comfortable. Couldn't figure out a way of getting it to look "right".

Hey, I really like your edit. I didn't even think of doing that :-p Thanks for sharing that, that gives me a good idea regarding this shot. :)
The first pic, the pose looks defensive & cold (along with the skintone) whereas shooting from above her in #2 makes the pose softer & more flattering...also her skin tones look warm, which is nice.

I intentionally made #1 colder (desaturated, selective desaturation, colour shift to something like sepia) just because I "felt" it would suit the pose etc. - I wasn't actually going for cold, I just liked the way the photo looked that way. Interesting that you mention that she looks defensive.. I have a few of her in the same position smiling but I can see what you mean. Mayhaps I need to work on making my subjects more comfortable all of the time rather than some of the time :)

I do.. If I get some time I might post some more up.

Yep, outdoor with fill flash from the 580EX and I used an omnibounce sometimes when there was stuff to bounce it off (and also when there wasn't and I just forgot to take it off).
LOVE #2,
they're all nice!
Thankyou muchly :)
I like the last one, keep up the good practicing.
thanks :)

thanks... I might try a properly saturated version of #1 and see what people's reaction is. :)
