If you had all the money in the world and no baggage (I mean old lenses that you do nt want to go to waste), what camera and equipment to buy (Canon, Nikon, Leica, used or new vintage stuff, new stuff etc...).
I image yo just won a world trip and are packing your gear for the trip.

That's a no brainer.
I would get the best Canon digital SLR with all of their best quality lenses.
Then I would hire a couple of camera caddies to carry it around for me.

I'm for hire Robert especially if i can occasionally use your gear lol.
...in regards to the question, I'd get Canon's top of the line of everything no question but If money is no object , heck why not get both canon and nikon and play around with both.
Still Canon would be sentimentally more important. It was my first SLR.
what's even more funny is I'd probably still open up a studio (in Europe) after my world trip..I just photography that much
Maybe one day my dream will come true

There was a time (and perhaps it is still the case) that Nikon lenses and Canon lenses focussed in opposite directions. So, it was uncomfortable to switch between two such cameras. For that reason alone, I would never mix the two.

C'mon guys live a little. I am hoping to hear about some vintage and rare camera you always wanted to have or a pricy Leica that everyone wonders why some people are so crazy about or a toy plastic camera just for the sake of experiment. Remember, you have all the money in the world is'nt there anything out there you really want to experiment with??
SW
PS. In case you are wondering why I am aksing this question: I imagined experienced peple would know about other cameras an gadgets which an average photography might not have heard about. I want to know about those.
To give an example: I really want to expericne photography with a Leica M8 just to see how it would come out after it is processed at Walmart for 18 cents a photo :)

Well would it make it all the more interesting...if you master the use of one and the master the other (let's face it , if we have all the money int he world we have all the time as well)...wouldn't be interesting to be an expert of each system and then actually knowing the specific differences with each.

Live a little?
I’d pack up and open up a photography studio in Beledorme or perhaps Valencia, have a huge cocktail party and invite my friends and of course Pedro Amadovar to come…talk about movies and photography and give him all my ideas for my books and he would turn around and make them into incredible films.
I’d become a renaissance photography, a master of any different facets…specializing in fashion and art, but covering anything from weddings to sports to wildlife to tourism.
I'd travel every inch of the globe taking pictures and showing them to the world...in the process I would meet every head of state for almost every country. I would convince the middle east to give up war and find peace, I would sway religions to work with each other for the better of humanity and not against each other. I would lead a crusade that would end dictatorship, that would end poverty and hunger…borders would become a mere line to cross and each country still preserved it’s identity and special culture.
Live INDEED!
A really nice dream , isn’t it?
Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to wake up.

This is easy for me. It's my long-term wishlist. I'm sure it will change as I learn more and I guess I would also include some sort of medium format camera.
Canon EOS 5D
- Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L
- Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II
- Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L
- Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II
and
Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder
- Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux
- Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux
- Leica 75mm f/2.0 Summicron

Heck, if I had all the money in the world, what would I need with a camera in the first place? Why would I ever want to see a picture when I can have the real thing. If I wanted to see Victoria Falls, I would ask my pilot to fly me to the airport I just built next to Victoria Falls in my SR-71. If I wanted to see my brand new Lambo posed with just the right lighting in the middle of a busy street, I would just ask the full Hollywood film and set crew that follow me around all of the time set it up so that I can view it from just the right vantage point. ;)

Technically having all the money in the world would not make for a very good economic system and everyone else would be too poor to actually make cameras for you.I also would just stick to Canon and buy some of the more expensive bodies and lenses.

As much as I'm a Canon fan...and in the real world, will always be...
If I had the cash, I'd def want a Hasselblad HD3....it's got to be mind blowing......and I look forward to seeing images that it produces !!

Ignoring for the moment that if I had all the money in the world I wouldn't have to buy anything.
My first choice can't be discussed in this forum (meet me in a SCIF to hear my answer)
My second choice right now would be a pair of H3D's and Annie Leibovitz as my assistant to help me take pictures. i would have the full lens set, but probably keep a 50 or 85mm lens on it.
My third choice would be a custom made 1DsMk-V and a 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 all 2.8L with a 50 and 85/f1.2 set. I mostly already have the lenses anyway.
But if I had to get one today, what I have already is pretty darn good and I would save my money for other stuff.

I want an 8 x 10 Deardorff View Camera. Beautiful old camera. I had the chance to use on about 25 years shooting in a studio and I have wanted one ever since.

I want someone to convert a Fuji 6x17 to digital. 80 megapixels seems reasonable.
If I have to choose current gear, a 1Ds MkII, all the L primes, and one of those motorized, computer-controlled pano heads.

All the money in the world huh. I think rather than buying cameras to take photos of amazing places I'd just buy the places instead.
And maybe a Canon A70. :)

If i had all the money in the world i'd commission my own camera, give Canon, Nikon, Leica etc blank cheques and a list of features you want, why compromise buying off the shelf tat that any Tom Dick or Harry can buy when you have all the money in the world ;)

I would like to buy one of those old looking cameras you look down the top of (medium format is it called?)
I'm getting a weird itch to try film.

My dreams are modest....
I'd probably ask for a custom build of a 5D with 45-point AreaAF, lithium batteries, weather sealing. And a few other things on my "5D-successor-wishlist".
Probably ask for the 24-85 f/2.8 ISL as well. And a custom 100-400 with current-gen image stabilization.
A couple of 580EX.
Beef up the tripod setup big time.
Try the 400 DO IS, and buy the 200 f/1.8. Probably get it re-released too if I could.
Pick up an 85/1.2L just because I like it. For no other reason really. I don't shoot portraits. And a 24/1.4 or 35/1.4. I'd play with them but not much else, I honestly admit.
Travel in style.. definitely. Some nice cases for the gear.
Sorry, simply NO other interest in other systems. Maybe consider playing with some Leica M or Leica R gear while I'm at it, just to see why they cost what they do... perhaps adapt the Noctilux f/1.0 to the EOS mount.

I would upgrade to a 1 series body and get a 600mm lens. And then take a long vacation to test them out. What I really need is all the time in the world.

Well I'd need some studio space to shoot in so I'd buy the Louvre, the Breakers, the Vatican and a few other small buildings. I think the Vatican would be a cool place to shoot nudes :)
For equipment I'd get a 4x5 8x10 view camera, a Rollei 6008AF Medium Format Auto plus digital back, a Hasselblad Flextight X5, Multi-format Film/Photo, Drum Scanner and a punch of lens and lighting equipment.

So you want to get a theme of naked priests going then? :) I'll look forward to seeing the pope in the glamour and nude section.

Sorry I've already spoken with the Pope and he's agreed to stay on as a make-up artist but refuses to model. Also after hearing that the only naked people will women most of the current occupants have decide to move out :) Though most of ground keep staff has agree to stay-on.
BTW would you like to help shoot the 2008 Victoria Secret Catalog in the Sistine Chapel :)?

I think that I'd buy another body and a couple of lenses that would fit nicely in my new motorhome and/or Lear Jet so I could travel & take as many pictures as I want. I'd probably also buy my own built-to-order processing lab and frame shop. Could probably add a lot more but that's a hell of a start.:):):)

Hassy Digital.
Excellent idea. I'll have a couple of those and all the lenses Hassy makes for them.
If i had all the money in the world i'd commission my own camera, give Canon, Nikon, Leica etc blank cheques and a list of features you want, why compromise buying off the shelf tat that any Tom Dick or Harry can buy when you have all the money in the world ;)
Another great idea. Aside from purchasing two of all the available prosumer and 1 series bodies Canon makes, I'd also get all the L's, all the good primes, and commission Canon to make a lightweight 50-500 f/2.8L zoom so I can shoot football to my heart's content. Of course, I'd own my own NFL team, too. :D

I don't expect that will ever happen but if I won a lottery I would do a few bits of work around my house and go part-time at work. I'd also buy my son a house and pay off my daughter's mortgages. That's all.

i would hire him for critique so I can acutally use the full potential of my gears.
after I learn how to, maybe add a few gears, travel all over the world, learn how to use Photoshop, and repeat.

Coupla 1Ds MK2. Maybe 3 (2 for field, one for studio).
All the L glass (probably not the big long white ones, don't really have a use for them). I'd probably end up playing with the 17-40L, 24-105L IS, 70-200/4L IS only.
Leica M8 with all the Leica glass.
Leica R8 + DMR with all the Leica glass.
Some fancy Hasselblad system with 57363MP digital back.
Carbon Fibre Tripods, pro lighting gear (profoto, elinchrom, broncolor whatever...)....
Pelican cases with wheels and handles for all =)
Fancy Macbook Pro with solid state hard drives (hm... possible 5 years down the road) and a dual (quad, whatever...) Conroe system with lotsa 10k harddrives in RAID.... (or probably solid state for all =))
A Candy white 5dr MKV GTI 2.0T FSI with DSG and 18" alloys to stuff it all in.....
And with the rest of my money (since I have all of it in the world) I'd build housing for every man, woman, and child on this planet... with PROPER schooling and teachers and universities for study!
Imagine that. The entire population being as intelligent as (or more) the average person in a First World Country. We'd have so many more Einsteins, Newtons, Fermats, etc etc. We'd make strides in technology so much quicker (and also solves our world economic/hunger problems)!
