Hi all,

I just got back from the Focus show (Birmingham UK) today.

I had a few minutes 'playing' with the new 1DS mk2 . It was obviously very similar to the mk1 in terms of handling, size and weight etc. Then I pressed the shutter and the motordrive was scary fast. 8fps sounds like a machine gun!!! So you guys who have ordered one expect it to be quick.

I am still not sure. I have a D30 that is pretty good. A 10D would be a step up, but not a big one. A 1D mk2 would be a big step up, but its 3 times the price and much larger and heavier. Not on sale here till April, so I have time to make up my mind.

In the meantime I bought a 17-40L - which seems pretty good but of course I haven't tried it out yet.

And I was also fortunate enough to become an LRPS (Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society) by submitting a panel of 10 prints which the judging panel decided were of a high enough standard.

So a fun day at the show and a new toy to play with and I will tell you how I get on with it when I have taken a few shots.

Hi Mark,

I'm going up on Tuesday (if the weather isn't bad).

Congrats on getting your LRPS. Can you put those after your name now or is it only when you get to fellow ?

1D MkII. Were you given the chance to have a good play or was it a quick "You can hold it and press some buttons, right give it back" kind of thing ? I'm hoping to make my final decision on this potential upgrade when I visit the show.

No other surprises there ? Worth taking the camera gear ?

Amateur Photographer (IIRC) were supposedly running a fashion show setup so that people could have a go at shooting catwalk/fashion.

More input !! :)

Cheers

Ian

Thanks, I can use LRPS after my name now if I want to.

I got about 5 minutes with the camera - they had 3 there today, but all you can do is press buttons look through the viewfinder etc. No pictures because they are pre-production models not the full final software spec.

I got in for free but I think it is about £6 to get in and the same for the car park.

There was a 'fashion' shoot, with some very nice models but your background will be hundreds of other photgraphers and there were also a lot of seminars on the usual things people want to know about - techniques (various), software, etc. etc.

I didn't take a camera, but you could probably get a few pics if you want to.

Thanks for that Mark, should I say Mr.M. Kemp, LRPS. :)

I will probably take my camera and a fast lens and practice my mixed light shooting again. NEC has got to be the worst place on the planet for lighting.

Cheers
