Hi,
As a new member of P.O.T.N, could someone let me know if there is a glossary that lists all the abbreviations that are used and what they mean?
Thanks for your help!

Welcome to POTN!!
I don't think there is a list anywhere of the abbreviations and terms. But a good place to start would be the FAQ threads of the relavent sections. They'll quite often explain terms and concepts in fairly basic language, so it should be fairly easy to pick up.
Never be afraid to ask questions though if you don't understand anything.

The trouble is that there are many abbreviations used and sometimes you have to look at the context of the post to determine what is meant. However, take a look at this link (http://www.acronymfinder.com/). It will list out all the registered abbreviation for that specific combination of letters. You might have to hunt through the list to find the meaning that is most suitable for the post. For example, you see POTN all over the place here, but anyone in the telephony business has known that POTN stands for “plain old telephone network” and has been around since Alexander’s days. This forum “borrowed” it for it’s own devious purposes. ;) So seeing POTN here, I know folks aren’t talking about ol’ Alex’s invention.
BTW... Welcome to the forum.
BTW in this context does not mean any of the following:
BTW Behind the Wheel
BTW Back To Work (shorthand used in email)
BTW Be That Way (less common)
BTW Balls to the Wall
BTW Between The Words
BTW Bundesverband der Deutschen Tourismuswirtschaft
BTW Below the Water
BTW Business and Technical Writing
BTW Between the Wars
BTW Born to Win
BTW BioTech World

Or POTS...plain old telephone service
I think the telecom industry is the worst for abbreviations, ...
My wife can attest to that. I work from home a couple of times a week and while on conference calls she’ll laugh because we get into a heated debate and though she knows we are speaking English, she has no idea what is being said as every other word is a made up one based on the acronym. Some of my favorites are:
CMPN pronounced camp-on, a telephony state where one piece of hardware is waiting for another to come into service.
ASSMN pronounced A$$-man (Alarm and Status Switching Module-Networked) as opposed to the ASSM which is not networked.
BRTD pronounced bird and it’s partner BRTP pronounced burp. It’s a bus repeater tone detector and provider. Usually in idle conversation it’s used as either bird-burp or more commonly burp-bird.
So with these three we have a complete thought
The a$$man reported that the burp-bird is stuck campon.
What’s not to understand? Makes total sense to me.
