I want to get into Portrait & Landscaping photography. I would say I will need about 3 - 4 lenses to start with.

I would like 2 for portraits and 2 for landscape shots.

Can I get some opinions from some of you guys/gals on which 4 lens I
should start off with.

The lenses can be between $100 - 500.

Tito,

The 28-135 IS is a good start.

For portraits, the 50mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4 are both good choices. The 85mm 1.8 is an outstanding lens, but it is a bit on the long end for portraits in the DSLR world. Still worth considering, though.

For landscaping, I think you will need something wider to go along with the 28-135. Canon makes a 20-35 that slots into your price range. I don't own it, and haven't used it, but the range and price are right. Perhaps someone else will have some experience to share on this one.

I don't dabble too much with non-Canon lenses, so I can't be of much help there.

Hope this helps.

Have Fun

Look at the Sigma EX series. They have some lenses that might fit the bill. I have a Canon 16-35mm F2.8L for wide angle shots and I will be getting the Canon 24-70 F2.8L shortly. Here are some prices from B&H...

Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Price: $ 329.00

Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 24-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Price: $ 399.00

Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 EX Aspherical HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Price: $ 439.00

Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX Aspherical DG DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Price: $ 579.00

In the price range you are looking for, all but the last one ought to work. They only get more expensive from there. The next one is the 50-500 one that is over $600. I can't seem to locate the link, now but I had one that rated camera, lenses and camera kit. You probably will want to go with the 17-35 and 24-70 (bother aforementioned) then a 70-200ish lens and then a 2X tc will get you to 400mm.

Cheers from England,
Canuck
