I had a session with a big family last weekend. I thought I would show some of them. C&C welcomed.

What were your settings on first shot(family portrait)? What mode and what was your point of focus? Group shots are my hardest to take for some reason. They ask me recently to take homecoming shot at church and I politely declined because it was about 200 people and everyone wants to buy one and I didn't want them looking at picture and thinking "wow, a camera and lens like that and a crappy picture:D". Thanks a lot. By the way, outstanding shots and love #3.

Just for future reference...always let the woman sit and the man do whatever else it is you want him to do...i think its nicer to see the lady sitting...

I am sure I was shooting in AV mode. That is what I use 90% of the time. I think fstop around 8 or 9. I never shoot lower than 7 with a big group.

I will keep that in mind next time. One of the reasons I didn't here is because the women were complaining that they look fat when they sit???????? I don't think it does, but whatever... lol?

Great shots all!
Good point on the ladies standing/sitting. Maybe trying both ways, and a third with kids snuggling Mom's legs to conceal the wideness. Also explaining that it's more of an issue when the camera is closer. Of course; if they disagreed after the proofs, better to have a set with them standing, lol.

Another reason for it here is that I they only had 4 chairs.

My sister-in-law said the same thing, and I have the pictures to prove it. I think it will depend on how they are sitting, and overall body type (there are lots of women in bikinis sitting, so it can't be all bad)

I also don't like that you can see the men's socks.
