Since 12 o clock today I've been working on my law assignement which inspired me to take a picture halfway thru my studies. Its 9pm and I'm not still done yet, but patiently getting there...
Here is the shot.

I like the composition. Here are a couple suggestions:
It's too dark.
I would rather the heading title "The Promise Theory" were in focus. The pencil is partially in focus, but not the whole pencil, so I don't know really know what I'm supposed to look at.

use a macro lens.to make a good image you have to have a focal point. This "classic" idea of text, the focal point should be a part of the text. dw if the bg blurs, the most important thing about Macro images is that there is a good focal point.

On the other hand after a long day with studies, that's exactly how I would see the print.
I like it :)

Using the concept of "leading lines," the subject appears to be the coffee cup. That is where the eyes are led by the pencil and the edges of the book. Unfortunately I don't think this was intentional. :?: But the setup definitely has potential.

This has a lot of potential for a story, but we just don't get the full story... There is a lot of clutter that does not add to the picture. A clock, and old snacks in the background could add some ambience.
We can't read the underlined text. It would be nice to 'study' what was studied. Also the pencil points away from the current text (the passages underlined.)
The book is underexposed by a stop or so. The paper should not be mid tone. Study with suitable light!
All in all, the photo is a good start, but not at it's potential. That's ok though because you were supposed to be studying and not setting up a studio shot... :)
Hope your study went well.
