Canon 10D workflow question (another newbie)

Well, I took the plunge and got myself a 10D recently. My question is,after you shoot your assignment, wether it's for yourself or a paper, what do you do next? Do you first burn the images to a cd then open them up in photoshop elements or what?

I'm just curious what some others do.....

Everybody seems to develop their own style on this based on priorities.

I put my CF cards into a USB card reader and then copy all files to a hard disk directory named Canon Receiving. Then I can view a thumbnail with a viewer right there in that directory, but I seldom do. Then I start the RAW-to-TIF converter. Those crank away at a rate of about four per minute, so I go away and get a cup of tea. When the files are converted, they go into another directory named Canon Converted. Then I start my image editor on each file and process for a long time. Some get deleted. Some get converted from 48-bit to 24-bit. Some get converted to JPEG. Some get refined. Some get copied into another directory for web use. Some get downsampled for attaching to email. Some get thrown into different directories for a special purpose. Some are done by batch process. Some are done individually. Some get Neat Image done on them. Some, I just cry over.

Depending on how important the images are, if the pictures are real important I BURN to CD immediately, if not then I copy to my secondary hard drive and burn later.

A word to the wise, you'll never know how important your back-up CD's are to you until you dont have them.

Seriously, the cost of CD-R's [I can get 200 - 700MB CD-R's for $5.00US after rebates]. So the price of the CD-R's is cheap enough to burn even 100MB worth of pictures and not care.
