Hello Everyone...

I have had my Canon A70 for about 5 months now.

Just yesterday I turned it on and tried to zoom out with it. Right when it was zooming out, it just stopped zooming and sorta stalled. The camera will still shut off and the lens will still close. Nos my camera does this stall thing everytime I try to zoom a lot. It wont zoom back in once it stalls when i zoom out.

I am a poor student and this camera cost me a lot. Help my fix it please!

Now any person would just go back to the place they bought it and ask them, but my friend bought it for me through it free points through a department store...and I payed him $350 for it.

The lens mechanism likely is damaged or otherwise impeded from working. It could be a broken gear, to bent tracks. Could also be sand in the mechanism. Could also be something that failed due to materals...

I assume you filled out your warranty card (online or by post) when you got it? If not, have your friend send the camera in for you (under his name.)

Since you didn't send in the warranty, and have no bill of purchase (since you didn't purchase it from a dealer) your best alternative, is to give it back to your buddy and have him submit it. If you submit it, without any proof of purchase, you may well get an estimate for repair. If you buddy submits it, the store (hopefully) can track the original order (if he doesn't) and submit the camera with that.

If the camera has suffered damages that aren't warranty, it doesn't matter how you send it in.

Check your manual and papers for the repair depot closest to you. There also may be another local depot listed in your local phone book. These guys have direct ties to Canon and will be able to repair your camera locally, or send it to Canon for you.

Good luck.
