Permission on selling photographs of cars

If I was to print a poster from a picture of a car that I've shot and to sell it I would need permission from the manufacturor company to do this right?

How hard is it to get the permission?

And what kind of letter should be sent to them?

If you can recognize it as a particular make and model, you'd better get a release, just to CYA. If it's blurred and all you see are streaking headlights, you should be safe.
