I was shooting pictures in my house yesterday, around 30 shots in a 40 min. period. The camera got warm as usual when shootong fairly rapidly. then it just stopped working. When you turn it on instead of the start up screen it is black with the setting info showing, then it goes completely black after a few seconds. I can still view pictures on the card, download to my pc. You can choose menu change settings etc.....does everything but take pictures.

I put in an empty card and changed the battery out, same result.

I don't know what else to try, any ideas? :(

The only thing I can think of off hand is to double check that your battery is charged fully. Run it through a charge cycle. After that, I'm out of ideas.

Try resetting everything to factory defaults. (check the manual in the trouble shooting section - which may also have other ideas too.)

It's could be that some part has failed (could have been aggrivated by the heat, or was just a coincedence...) and needs to be replaced. Hopefully it's under warranty.

Thank you thank you! It took a while to find the manual but restoring the settings to default seemed to work. So far so good.....and no the warrenty has expired. Luckily I purchased an S50 a while back so I wasn't cameraless.

Perhaps this a topic for another thread but what is the but what is the best way to go to have a camera (out of warrenty) repaired? Send it to Canon or are there other avenues for repair.

Cheers and Thanks Again!

Toggle the display button on the back of the camera. It cycles from active LCD to active with data to blank to save battery. Or something like that. RTFM!
