Hi I just registered and I've read some of the rule threads but I'm still not sure if I can post/participate here.

Are these forums just for Canon owners? I don't own a Canon :-)

Chris..
Welcome to POTN. We don't really have a Conon-only requirement here. If you're a digital photographer (or film, for that matter) there's a lot of useful information for you, regardless of the name on your camera. Be prepared for some good-natured ribbing, but we're all friends here.

In fact, there are really only a few forums that might not be interesting to you at all, and those are the hardware-specific boards. Everything else is pretty general as it relates to photography.

Who knows? We might even convert you, although that is not our goal.

Glad to have you on board.

Thanks, I have already learned quite a bit (I'm a newb) and I can't wait to get home to try a few things.

I don't have stong feelings about camera brands one way or another, so I'd be an easy guy to convert except I just bought a new camera last week that I won't be replacing anytime soon :-) It is my first SLR and man oh man what a difference it makes.

Cheers!

Congratulations on the new SLR and enjoy it. I would highly recommend Bryan Pederson's book 'Understanding Exposure'. You will find it invaluable as you start out.

Just don't turn your back on any of us:evil: ....I'm kidding of course. Welcome there is a ton of stuff here that applys to whatever model you happen to be using and probably one of the greatest collections of talent I have ever had the pleasure to run across.

Welcome to the forum Chris. We don't care too much;) about the equipment you use so don't be shy.

Thanks guys. I've been snapping photos and home movies for years but primarily making videos and slide shows with them. I've never taken photography seriously until the last couple of weeks. I've taken some amazing shots with my new camera and I'm having a blast using Photo Paint.

And I just put 'Understanding Exposure' in my cart at Amazon. I need to familiarize myself with the posting pics guidelines here and then hope to post a few. Life is good!

Just kidding! :-)

Welcome to POTN, and - as you can see - expect some friendly teasing.

As long as you don't actually USE a Nikon (like I sometimes do  ) you'll be OK :-) - As everyone else has said, don't worry, this is a friendly place and I'm sure you can contribute to most sections. (You don't have a Nikon do you? :-))

Pheww, thank goodness. I'm like Mr_Christopher - I don't have a Canon dslr. In fact I don't have any dslr hahaha. I've got a 20 yr old AE-1 and I'm planning to get a dslr soon. Perhaps I can pick up something cheap from upgraders after PMA. Glad to hear we're welcome too!

Has anyone posted pics taken with a Nikon before? And what happened, if I may ask. Just curious :)

Isn't photography about the photographer and not the equipment?
Being on this forum for the past few months, I appreciate how each of us knows "stuff" and when we put it all together in this forum it's awesome.

If you really want to pretend to be one of us you can always just fake your EXIF data and claim to have the world's only Canon 1Dxti. Or something

The product related stuff aside, this is a great photography site in general and non-Canon users are crazy. If they do not to join, that is.

Even the Canon boards would be helpful to other system users. The EOS cameras one is really about DSLRs in general, just very Canon-centric, while if Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and the rest, make lenses for your mount then the EF lens board will be useful to you too.

Michael.

Whenever I see something that was not taken with an L-lens my eyes literally bleed. Just a glimpse of a shot taken on a Tamron puts me into an irreversible coma.

Agreed MaxZoom. And so far, except for an encounter with an inane pyromaniac whom I'm ignoring, I kinda like this forum. :)

Wow, that's extreme! So you must be an L-lens expert? Can I bother you for advice when I can afford them?

CDS & jj1987, haha I haven't decided yet what I'm going to buy.

That means Tamron are really bad or really good? (Sorry I really don't know)

Nobody knows. Try it, and if you like it, it's really good. The whole lens question really boils down to that.
