Yesterday I noticed for the first time a faint spot on one of my photos. So I made some test shots. Here is one with heavily enhanced contrast and sharpening to make the spots more visible.

I first thought that it might be dirt on my lens, but even after cleaning the lens thouroughly, the spots remain. This looks a lot like the example in the article about sensor cleaning (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/sensor-cleaning.shtml) from Luminous Landscape.... :(

So it looks like it's my turn to clean the sensor....

Yep that's that damned dust alright! I live in South Korea and have been dealing with this problem ever since I got an slr. Korea is a very dusty and polluted place. People regularly burn their refuse in the streets (plastic and cans too) so changing lenses is really risky. I can't wait to finish my current contract and go home (Canada) for a while before starting another one.

I have been cleaning the sensor about two times a week since I got my 10d. I use methanol and pec pads. Seems to work ok but you need to make sure that you are working in a clean and fairly dustless room and that you work fast. I would recommend not keeping the chamber open too long as this will prove counter productive. Also I found that using just the smallest amount of methanol works best and avoids leaving streaks on the low-pass filter.

Have fun.

I've only cleaned the sensor a few time, but when I did I used this method:

Worked like a charm!
