My daughter won a little beauty type pageant a few months back and part of her prize package was a free test shoot with a fashion/commercial/etc. photog. We just received our comp cards from the shoot a couple of days ago and they look great. They are on what feels like card stock, but it has a slight gloss on both sides, and the actors head shot that she got is the same, but glossy only on one side. My question in all of this is what type of paper is it really, and where can I get these printed? I want to offer similar options to my clients but have no clue where to get these printed at. I have been using Mpix for my regular photos and love the quality but they don't offer this type of paper. Any suggestions?

Thanks

There is so many different types of papers out there it is really hard to know. Online places like mpix are going to offer your basic types of paper. The pro lab that I use sent me a package when I signed on with them that has samples of the different types of paper that they can print on. I had sent them some test images to be done and after I had my account approved there they took one of my images and sent a sample of every paper with it on it. I thought it was a pretty cool marketing technique, but I digress.

I use a fine art paper from them sometimes that is semi-gloss and feels like a card stock (just thicker paper base). Their sample refers to it as Pearl-Fine Art.

I would suggest that you try some pro labs in your area. Most of them will send out a small swatch of paper samples if they think you are serious.

I'd guess that they're actually from a printing press rather than photographic stock.

Start with local firms who do business stationery and you'll have it nailed.

Thanks for the input so far. Sheldon, would you mind sharing which pro lab you use? I love the quality and service from mpix, but if there is something better out there I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks
