Happy New Year to one and all. To start off 2007 the WWPD theme is "Weather." Whether it's good, bad, or ugly where you are, we (and by that I mean me and Ryan ;)) want to see what weather images come to mind for you this weekend. Rules are back to normal -- two images each, please.

Sorry to hear you've been down in the dumps, Sari. But glad that you are on the mend.
Sending warm air your way. ;)
Hmmm.... maybe I'll get a PHOTO of that warm air for you. :p

I'm maddened that I went out yesterday without my camera to drop something off and witnessed one of the best sunsets I've seen in a while.
It's been raining pretty much all weekend.
Forgive the lack of quality here, but I'm on a bit of a pattern stream...

Woke up to frost this morning, for January that is unusual, we should have snow, but; it has been above normal temperatures since early December here:

And someone had to do it:

Looks like we might get snow yet, though.

Well it was 70 degrees here in the northeast on Saturday, REALLY weird.

Pete - I'd planned on trying to do a nighttime through the windshield type shot, but when I had time to shoot last night, it had stopped raining for the first time all day.:lol:
Becky - Love the frost shot. Hadn't thought about weatherchannel.
Crissa - I would've thought there would be others with unusual weather like yours who might have contributed this week (one of the reasons that weather came to mind when I saw no one had picked a topic for this week yet). Hope you enjoyed it while it lasts.
So - my turn. Why was weather on my mind? November was the rainiest month on record EVER in Seattle. Consecutive days of rain - huge quantities of rain - you name it, we had it. Massive flooding affected homes in the lowlands around where I live (I'm up on a hill, and was safe). December brought one of the strongest windstorms in 40 years, toppling trees and knocking power out throughout the region. I have family members in very populated suburban area who were without power for between five and nine days. This weekend was due to bring in another storm - though no where near what November and December had delivered.
So - natural disasters bring (eventually) relief. FEMA opened a flood relief center nearby just after the windstorm -- leading to much consternation and confusion among people trying to find help. I found this sign at the local "relief center" today.

Today there was rain, and lots of it. The ground is still saturated from November, so any significant rain starts to result in urban flooding. This was taken on one of the main thoroughfares in the area. At this point the road is about seven lanes wide, and a lane on either side was underwater.

Thanks for humoring me -- and lets see if we can get more people involved again next week. :)

I wasn't going to post because I wasn't pleased with my shots. But there were so few participants, that I changed my mind. Hope we get more people next weekend.

Here's a different interpretation -- this is what weather does; it weathers things:

I like the "weathered" shot. I also had weathered items in mind, but in the interest of saving myself and my camera from the weather, all my shots were taken from inside the shelter of my car. :)
To up participation for next weekend, let's see if we can't get a little more discussion of possible topics started sooner. Last week's "discussion" was pretty much me not wanting to wait any later than Friday afternoon and trying to keep this tradition going.

David, I had heard about the record rain fall in your area. Having lived in Everett some years back, I knew gully washers are not the norm for you. Was wondering how these down pours were being handled. Glad you are on high ground.
Barbara, very nice shots, I'm glad you decided to share.
Crissa, Eli always brings a smile to my face, I would really like to meet him someday, he reminds me of on of my nephews.

Weather tonight -- wind gusts to 60mph tapering off, followed by snow, followed by lows in the teens for the next couple of days. My February Maui vacation can't get here fast enough.
So -- Wednesday is here. What do people want to shoot this weekend?

Here are some ideas:
1. Communication
2. Community
3. Fill flash
4. Music
I'd hate to see this weekly event die. It's helped me a lot because I try to use it to learn something new about photography or my camera each time I participate. For example, I used one weekend to force myself to experiment with Custom White Balance. Now I use CWB fairly often, which means less time in PPing.

I must say I appreciate this thread, often times I don't have the time on the weekend to take the shots but I will look to see what the theme is and keep it in mind all week when I do get a chance to use my camera.

Okay, I have only posted once to this theme because I only discovered it just before Christmas and missed last weeks through trying to recover, ;) , so I dont have a lot of weight on the choice of themes....but...... I realy like the Fill Flash idea as I have read a lot about it but not realy played around with fill. Just my thoughts

I think Sari has been having internet issues, so that could be the reason she hasn't been popping in.
I think it would take a lot for this idea to die. Too many people like it. ;) It's been going for almost a year. :)
I haven't participated in the last few because of weekend time restraints, but I keep it in mind all week to see if there is a chance I'll be able to shoot over the weekend.
That being said, I don't have any suggestions for the theme for this weekend. :p
Maybe take a peek at the 'unused' ideas on the main WWPD thread?? HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603)
There are tons of ideas there.
I like 'motion'..... hmmmmm

I have broken down and ordered my own internet connection so extra money but, if I thought I was isolated before when I had reasonable internet access try not having any at all.... good grief I'm in the middle of nowhere.. Okay, here are my contributions for last weekend, taken last weekend by the way but this is the first day i've been able to get online at home.... weather, I had some pretty skies not pretty weather it was freezing...

as for next weeks theme i'm game for pretty much anything that we can come up with. Please don't take my absence as disinterest.. I should have internet in about two weeks, takes a dang long time when you're a hundred miles away from those guys that hook everything up...

I like the motion suggestion -- it's been suggested in the past, too, but never selected.
And don't worry, Sari, I knew you hadn't forgotten about us. I figured you were either snowed in, or still trying to clean up after the Fiesta Bowl celebrations. ;) I really like your second shot, by the way.

Has anyone seconded the motion? ;)
SO could it be "motion.... or the lack of it" ?? Broad interpretations, right? :D
