I'm getting ready to head back to the Middle East (Military) and I want to drag my gear with me. I'm looking to purchase a pelican case to house all the equipment. The question for you frequent travelers... how do I go about securing the case? I thought you/me could not add locks to your baggage? Can I have the security folks at the airport inspect and apply locks or seal the case...something along those lines? I can't imagine you Pro's traveling with open cases and $$$$$$ worth of equipment all over the country/world. How do you secure your items?

Next ?

Can you point me to an insurance company so I can insure my gear?

Thank you taking the time to read this.

Hi Hatch,

You might ask to move your post to the Accessories and Storage Forum. You will likely get more thoughts on your options.

Are you not able to take your gear as carry-on?

You can lock the case/cases if you use TSA approved locks.

Many thanks for the info all.

Thank you Richard for the links. Talk about cheap looking locks... now I'm really nervous about packing up the gear and checking it in. LOL

Thanks again. Hatch

I agree :) . But, if you put anything else on it's more than likely going to get cut. Better cheap and locked than expensive and cut.;)

As well as locks. I always use personalised ziplocks and good insurance.

Are you going on a military flight with your unit or a commercial flight? If a military flight consider how much baggage they are going to allow. If they will allow it they will probably be much more lenient on your baggage (they were with my deployments but I never went to Iraq so things may be very different. If commercial your on the right track. Another option would be to have a family member mail it to you insured of course might be a bit expensive but possibly more safe.
