Hi Costa,
I hope you have better luck getting an order from Adorama to Canada then I did.
In the future, I will be sticking to B&H Photo or Simmy's Cameras in Montreal after having experienced the worst customer service ever at Adorama.

Costa,
You must have ordered the last one or something, because I just got onto Adorama and it said they were out of stock. I ordered a bunch of stuff from B and H last night, but couldn't order the 50 1.8 because they were out of stock too. I would like to order it soon, so if anyone knows where to find one (except Broadway Photo) :D please let me know.

Has anyone ever had any dealings with CAI Cameras? They have 50mm f/1.8 lenses on sale on ebay. I am usually a little leery of buying on ebay, but if this dealer is reputable, I am willing to take the chance. The price is $25 more than B and H...but who knows how long it will be until B and H gets more in.

What was your epiphany? To buy from ebay. I am still a little leery, but I think I may go for it. They got really good feedback on ebay.

I just ordered a 70-200mm F4L lens from Adorama to my place here in Canada. I highly recommend them. VERY fast. B&H never had this lens in stock!
The only glitch I had was that they could not confirm my address (since I am unlisted) and I had to send them a copy of a utility bill. That was weird since whenever I buy online from any place in Canada, they just confirm the address with the credit card company.
Any way, I ordered the lens on Monday, they shipped Tuesday (Fedex Priority), and I received it Wednesday. I only paid GST at the border, and saved about $180CDN compared to the best price I found in Canada.
The best customer service I've ever received is in fact from Simmy's in Montreal when I bought my Rebel. But I just couldnt justify paying well over $1000 for this lens when I could buy from Adorama for about $850CDN.
Bruce, what problem did you have with them?

I agree 100 percent about Simons Cameras. I too just bought a DRebel body from them at a price that was slightly better than any of the U.S. online retailers.
Camera was at my door 24 hours later, with no charge for shipping!
Can't recommend them enough.
I also give high marks to B&H; have spent several thousand $ with them, including my 10D, various lenses and a film scanner.
First time customers are phoned at home to confirm the order and prevent fraud, orders have always gone out right after confirmation.
Adorama came up on my radar when BH was out of stock. First order to them for a tripod went flawlessly and I had the goods in a week.
Second and most recent order was the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
Put the order through Adorama web site on a Monday. Tuesday, I receive an email asking for a photocopy of my credit card and also a copy of the credit card statement.
This is a little wierd since I had already bought from them with the same card and had an established account, but I dutifully scanned and emailed the info.
Waited 2 days and then check the web site for my account status. Order shows as "pending".
Send an email to Adorama customer service asking why the hold up. No reply.
After six days, still no change in status or reply so I sent them another email. No reply.
On the seventh day............. another email to them expressing my displeasure and cancelling the order. Had they shipped on time, I would have had the goods.
Finally a reply; they cancelled the order a full week after it was placed, no apology or explanation.
So, if you have lots of time and don't mind being ignored, they are a fine place to shop.
I have now placed the same order through BH Photo and paid for rush shipment.
Hope your future experiences with Adorama are better than mine.
Cheers,
Bruce

I just have add another warning agains Adorama. I had a bad experience with customer service also. I had used them several time for small things, but then wanted to buy my first light meter. I told them what I wanted and they didn't have it. They made a couple of suggestions, I specifically asked a couple of time if it was digital. I was insistant I wanted a digital one. (Now I admit, I had no idea what I was doing, this was the first light meter I've ever bought. I told them as much and asked for help) Anyway, they quoted me a good price on a used one, I said ok. When I got it, it wasn't digital. I didn't know how to use it and the damn thing didn't work anyway!! I called them up and found out that to get a digital one was going to cost me almost twice as much. The guy even admited that the sales man had given me the wrong info. I felt since it was thier mistake they could at least split the difference with me, but they wouldn't budge. It took about 3wks after they recieved the product back to get the refund. I'm not a rich person. So in the mean time I couldn't afford to get one anywhere else.
Short version: Thier salesperson didn't know the product. They were rude. They were unwilling to compensate me for thier mistake. They were unwilling to budge, even a little. They did not even offer me a free filter (which I bought a lot off from there).

Yes, I do agree that Adorama doesn't respond to emails.
I ended up phoning them and talking to the salesperson directly.
I do like the fact that they have a 1-800 line that is available both in the US and Canada.
However, after hearing these stories, I may go to B&H from now on.
