I keep reading about a shadow problem with certain lenses in several reviews of the 30D. Is it a problem? What lenses are affected?
Thanks.

You're probably reading about shadows being cast when using the pop-up flash with large wide angle lenses (and hoods). I'm pretty sure the 16-35 f2.8L, the 17-40 f4L and the 24-70 f2.8L have this issue to some degree, but I'm not sure about any others. If you use an off-camera flash or a Speedlight, you won't have this issue.

Mark is correct. Its for the pop-up flash. I also have a 30D with the 24-70 f2.8L and at the wide end theres a shadow. This is because the lens is extended at the wide end but shorten on the zoom end, so there will be no shadow with the pop-up flash at 70 and without a hood.

Like a complete plonker, once I was partialy covering the flash with my finger when manual focusing (i was shooting a test shot with the hood reversed so had my hand higher than usual), I seriously thought I had a shutter problem when seeing the shot only half exposed lol.
Ive been into photography for some 30 years now, I still cant believe I done that. Beware the pop up flash, its so close to the lens.
