Ok heres the story.... I've had a 300D for a while and my good friend turned me on to RAW and i've never looked back. At the time I was using a free editor called Raw shooter Essentials. I love the layout and its very user friendly. I absolutely hate the layout of PS and i feel like a 5 year old when i try to use it....

I ended up selling my 300D and was planning on upgrading to a 400D. Well i eventually ended up getting the 400D for christmas and i've really had not time to mess with it untill tonight. So i took a couple shots arround the house and went to upload and edit them in Raw shooter, and they wont seem to open. I've came to the conclusion that the Raw Shooter doesnt support CR2 files only CRW. So now i am stuck without a editor. So is there anything out there that is free that has a nice layout(unlike PS) that i can download?

PS: I plan to upgrade to apature when money permits, just need something to hold me over till then.

TIA!!!

DPP 2.2 is free and produces excellent results
even if the interface still needs some improvements

WELCOME BlingBlingK1NG!

As yb98 says - use DPP, it's free (with an expensive camera anyway :-))

It may not have the best interface in the world, but it does a very good job of converting RAW files.
I believe Bibble is free, I've tried it, and it kept crashing and I just didn't get on with it.

I use C1, It's not free, but it is a very good converter with very natural colours and I like the interface.

I'm assuming you downloaded the latest edition of RSE 2006? I have a 350D, and it's supported. RSE is still available as a free download for the moment, so it's worth a try.

While the 350D (XT) is supported, I believe the original poster uses the 400D (or XTI)

Agree with the others... if you are planning to get aperture eventually anyway, use Canon's DPP... Plus, if you want to use the dust removal feature (not the vibrating one, the software one that removes excess dust that sensor vibration doesn't remove) you NEED to use DPP don't you?
