I quit smoking last Oktober.
You smokers out there know how hard it is to stop smoking. After 5 months of saving all the (cigarette) money i bought the 10D with Big ED. :D :D :D
Now i have the camera and will have to keep on saving for a nice wide angle lens.
Besides that i´ll have (for the next months) only dry bread and plain water
Regards

Well done on both counts!
There's plenty of ways to die without arranging it yourself.
Good luck with the camera and good luck too for the future - I know it's not easy.

Way to go on the smoking. I quit 10 years ago, was up to 3 packs a day. I think here that is about $50 per week,, pay for the 10d in 38 weeks. Lets see that leaves me 9 years and 14 weeks at $58 per week, $27,000 for fun and I maynow live long enough to use it up now. MOre lens, more CF mem more more..
Way to go!

Good job on quitting smoking and a wise use of the money you saved!
Quitting cigarettes is pretty hard. I've done it a dozen times.
Staying quit is even harder. I've stayed quit for 2 years and 1 month now.
Keep at it, and don't let anybody try to give you a cigarette. They suck. :)

I chew Copenhagen, I was thinking the same thing too, if I quit I could put and extra $25 a week towards camera stuff...
Time to quit!

I was a chain smoker, and 3-4 packs a day were not uncommon. I had a heart attack scare when I was thirty, and still didn't quit. Not long after that, however, I wen't to a mystic who told me, "Within your lifetime, cigarettes are going to cost over $4.00 a pack, and you will need that money for digital photo equipment."
Of course I quit immediately, and that was over thirty years ago.
I don't know if I'm better able to afford photo equpiment now because I quit smoking, but I'll bet you've I've bought a few years of extra life.
I call that a good investiment.

Congrats Ed! Bravo!
And great reallocation of funds :).
Myself, I'm five years removed from a pack-a-day unfiltered's and two and half years removed from premium cigars. The pursuit of my wife parted me of the cigarettes and my love for my children overcame my obsession with fine cigars.
Unfortunately, my only crutch/hobby/money hole right now is this digital photography stuff. I'd give it up if it somehow meant I could spend more money on it; but the logic doesn't quite resolve itself now does it ;).
Thanks for sharing Ed, inspiration for us all.

Congrats Ed!!! I know how hard it is, after too many years of smoking, I quit for good this time last April. Going on a year now, and I have to laugh when I realize how much money I'm saving. I figured my savings at roughly $120 a month, and probably more since they seem to be always going up in price. :D
