Went up to the Hidden Valley in Glen Coe yesterday, but it rained all the time I was there and only managed to get one decent image.

After I started to drive home the weather improved and on the few occasion the rain did stop I managed to get a few more images which I will post later.

cool shot looks like a painting almost, how much of a hike was it to get to that spot?

Wow! It was worth the wait (the picture loaded extremely slowly! Probably my connection though...).

This was right at the very start, almost at the roadside.
I was meant to meet up with a few guys but they had left early, tried to find them but I didn't know my way around and the weather looked it was going to turn to snow so I thought better.

Cheers.

Wow! It was worth the wait (the picture loads extremely slowly!).

It was about a 45min wait for this one, and I wasn't willing to walk anymore, it was pouring down ;)

I noticed that with a few of my images that are hosted with Imageshack at the moment. Will post the rest with Photobucket to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for that.

Nice photos given the typical weather Alex. The Imageshack one was also chronically slow to load for me too.

Much quicker now Alex (I forced a browser refresh to confirm this). Your latest photo is very nice, and I like the colours and details of the sky.

Wonderful photos Alex, one of my very favourite areas for landscapes. The weather is more often than not a challenge up there, but despite this it's amazing what you can come away with. I was itching to photograph the waterfall in #1when I was up there in October, but it was nigh impossible to get to due to roadworks.

I'll just stick with Photobucket for now.
On the occasions the rain did stop the clouds cleared a little to reveal some lovely blue, made a big difference to the hole feel of the sky.

I used to pass through here for many years before I took up photography 2 years ago and never really 'looked' at the beauty that was all around me, this was my first time there to take images which has given me a hunger to go back again and again :)
You could drive down the road every 100m and want to jump out and start clicking away, but sadly the rain put a stop to that :(

That's what I end up doing every time every time I pass through (usually on route to Skye). Thank goodness for an understanding husband and a son who welcomes any opportunity for playing for an hour or so on his PSP!

I can see you enjoy coming up to the highland from the images on your web site, lovely.
Hopefully Sky will be on my list of place to visit this year, summer most likely.

Some really moody pics you have there I like them alot.
So did you use a GND filter for these? at a guess I would say you did.
adds to the scenes exposure very well.

Keep up the good work

I used the Cokin P121 for all the images bar the first one.
Thanks Allan for the kind comment.

I see what you mean Seaboarder, out of them all I think it portrays the Highlands the most, snow capped mountains, cascading waterfalls, cloudy skies and beautiful heather all around.....ah Bonnie Scotland ;)

Alex, I hope you won't misunderstand me here, I've looked through your gallery and was impressed with the quality of your work, but this series of images just don't cut the mustad for me, (except the piper), I find that most of them are way oversaturated , giving overbright greens and unnatural skies, and the whites of your first waterfall are too bright, dominating the scene rather than being in harmony.

Some good compositions, but the pp is not up there with your best.

You've made some fair points Les, but I think the PP is a personal thing and people will either like it or not ;)
Good job I use layers, I can always go back and lower the opacity.

Thanks for the comment

Les I like getting comments on my images as long as it's constructive and not nasty, it's one of the best ways to learn.
Here's the image with just the levels done for the sky, mountains and foreground separately with a slight adjustment with curves also.

WDYK?

Yep, much improved, although I'd go along your contrast line (hills/sky) with a small blur tool set to luminosity at around 10%

I usually put a Cokin P121 grad filter on with the camera set to Manual. Aperture at f16-20 as you will loss sharpness going any lower, and usually underexpose for shots like these.

Thanks for looking Steven.

I used my 20D with a 17-40mm f4 L fixed to the front:)
