They're all great as a series, but after a second look, #3 really hit the sweet spot. That really is a perfect picture.

Thanks folks!

It's been so freaking cold and crappy since mid December,. this is the first time I've been out in ages.

Tom W., Cinnamon, Scottes and Marie;
Thanks so much :) Very glad you enjoy them.

BC;
It was 4:02.22pm.. good call!

Shutter was 1/1250 @ f/10
Partial metering of course. :)

Howie,. long time no see!

#3 is my favorite too,. it's the splash that makes it!

The gull actually dove in about 4 or 5 times before retriving the Quahog.. in and out of the water,. it was clearly not on the top but dug in a little!

I'd never seen a gull dive like that before. It was something. :)

He'll fly up with it and drop it on something hard to crack it open. That's quite a scene, too, as they'll swoop down quite beautifully.

Awesome photos....;)

What part of Bristol where these shot in?Reason I ask is I live in Bristol...

But the Sea Gulls are well known in Colt State Park to grab the Quahog and drop them into the street and while driving through you have to be real carefull and make sure it doesn't land on your car.Trust me I've seen it happen....;)

Thanks Ovi :)

This was a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 which seems to be the best performing lens I have used on the 10D... including my 70-200mm IS L :shock:

I have a very hard time getting this lens to make a bad shot :mrgreen:

Each one is superb but as a series with a story to tell they are just brilliant. The water splash on #3 makes it my favourite. Cant wait for some great british sunshine, well at least enough to get past 90th at 5.6 on the 100-400 :cry:

Cant wait for some great british sunshine

Yeah, once that great British sunshine comes in, I'm going to take a working vacation in London, go to the Thames and use my military intelligence to catch some jumbo shrimp, then sit down on my artificial grass in some bright shade, take a big sip of some non-alcoholic beer, and enjoy the countless numbers of clearly confused resident aliens enjoying the fairly dark waters on the Thames.

Hmmm... 12 oxymorons in a single sentence....
