Went to our local duck hotspot...bumped into Wayne who was already there. Among the many, many usual Mallards and Black Ducks was a nice and refreshing surprise...a female Wood Duck! Most of you guys down south probably don't see anything special with this sighting, but to see one in Ottawa in January is special in everyway (a quick look at your birding book's range maps will tell you why;) ). Anyhow, she came quite close at one point...these are full frame.:D

......Quite the weather we are having and while on Frank Kenny today I saw at least 3 motorcycles ......in January......not a flake of snow anywhere at a time when snowmobiles are the norm.....its nice but a little disconcerting

Beautiful exposures, detail and color. These are really quite excellent! I guess Msr.s wood Duck has some special iridescence all her own!

I'm a woody fan Maybe N America's most handsome duck male or female. I checked my colony last year and found them on Nov 4. I Looked again March 15 and they returned. Haven't looked after Oct this year. Well shot Daniel.

Yes we are. January 8th, and no snow on the ground?!?! Oh well, were saving on heating bills.

Yes, a little disconcerting...hopefully things will come back to normal. It's nice to have some lingering species because of this, but notice how we are lacking the usual numbers of winter species this year...especially the finches:cry:

I thought so too! I was glad to see it show up this nicely upon looking at them on my monitor.

funny isn't it I really went for wood duck drakes a few years back letting the hens swim away.. They really have a charm of their own and I decided to go after it. Your shots are well done.

Full frame?!? Amazing! Excellent shots, lots of detail. Shows how beautiful the female is even though she often gets overlooked.
