I have tried a few possible ways to produce a true B&W image from my 10d and always end up with a slightly bluish tint (especialy on skin tones) I was wondering if anyone else has had this type of result. No matter how I tweak the image it never seems to be really B&W. Could soneone more experienced with this type of conversion give me some help, please?

Thank you.

I am using Photoshop Elements that came with the 10D. In color enhancements you can remove color... try it.

It's unclear if you're talking about the screen image or the print. For the sake of this conversation, I'll assume you're talking about the print because I've had the same problem on occasion.

I'm not at my desktop computer right now, but I seem to recall that the bluish tint was a result of printing B&W images straight from the image file using default settings for the printer. Under those circumsances, the printer is using a combination of CMYK inks to produce black. There is a checkbox in the printer dialog box which allows you to check B&W only, and then it prints only from the black cartridge.

I'm currently using a Canon i950, and I honestly can't recall if that is an option with this printer, or if that was a feature of one of my earlier printers. (I print very little B&W) The next time I get on that computer, I'll check.

In PSE 2 when you convert color to black and white, try this:
1.Open up the layers palate. Window>layers
2. Click on the blk/white circle at the bottom of the layers palate and select a new adjustment layer, Levels. Click OK in the levels box once it opens. No adjustments yet.
3. Open up a Hue/saturation layer the same way. Drag the saturation slider all the way to the left to remove all the color and click OK.
4. Double click directly on the levels icon in the Levels adjustment layer.
5. From the pull down menu select each color (Red,Green,Blue) and adjust levels for each color. After you've done all three select OK.
6. Go to the Layers palate, select More> Flatten.
Thats it. It works better then Mode>greyscale.

Scott,

Great technique. I don't recall reading about that here on this forum.

That is 3 ways to get black and white,, boy I am learning ,, 1- enhance, adj color, remove color, 2- image, mode, grey scale, 3- layer etc etc what scott said.. I tried all 3. Mode grey scale seems worst and the other 2 equal for me.. Thanks guys. Any more ways!!
